Default PSB T5/T6 Near Wall?

So I have a very oddly proportioned living room, roughly 22x11 with the TV along one of the long walls. There is no possibility of rearranging the room given the layout, windows, custom sectional, etc.

I would like to pick up a pair of PSB T5s or T6s and a C5 center channel, but I'm concerned about placing these towers so close to the wall behind them. At most, I can keep T5s 6 inches off the wall. T6s would get 3 inches at most. The speakers will be about 8 feet apart. Will the "bloom" from either of these speaker sets be problematic?

My father picked up the T5s, and I really like them but the setup of his room is very different. He's able to place them 12 inches+ off the wall behind the towers. I would prefer a little more bass, which is why I'm considering the T6s, but realize that my space constraints might make them less than ideal.

Thanks!

I have a question regarding the placement of my surround back speakers. Because of the limits of my livingroom, I am forced to mount the surround backs on the wall directly behind my seating position. The result is that when I'm seated, the speaker faces are almost in front of my ears (see image below).

Livingroom Speakers.jpg

I do have the ability to adjust the speakers downward slightly, toward the listening position, but i wondered if that messes with the overall sound, given that all the other speakers are facing directly outward and parallel with the floor.

Other than placing a sofa table behind the seating postion to move the sofa out away from the wall and thus placing the surround backs behind me, is there anything I can do to improve the situation? Is there anything wrong with simply pointing them downward? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Edit: If it helps, the side surrounds are set to run as bipole (Energy RC-R), the surround backs are direct reflecting (Energy RC-Mini). All of the surround speakers are mounted at 55" (mid speaker) above the floor, which puts them roughly 1 1/2" - 2" above my ears when seated.

Make sure the surround back speakers are installed a couple of feet above your head when you are sitting down and point them toward the front speakers.

Alternatively, use bipole or dipole surround speakers for the back instead of direct-radiating monopole surround speakers. Bipole/dipole surround speakers have a more diffuse sound.

Will it make a difference that my ceiling is vaulted and angled up in one direction?

My surround backs are Energy RC Mini's (direct), unfortunately. The side surrounds are Energy RC-R's and are set to Bipole.

Could you switch them out? Use the bipoles in the rear higher up as Big Daddy suggested. If you can't, and go with mine - the vaulted ceiling is high in the back, right? If it is this may help with diffusion. They will have to go about 1.5 to 2 ft above your head.

Oh I see (duh...takes me a while). I'll definitely try using the bipoles in the back and the directs on the side, though that does raise one issue. If I make the bipoles Surround Backs, I'll only be able to use them in a 7.1 setting. The majority of my listening is in 5.1, which would limit me to the directs for surround.

Unfortunately, the ceiling is slanted upward toward the subwoofer side of the room.

Hey everyone, im currenty replacing my old 5.1 system with a new. Polk Audio is the brand im upgrading to. I just got my two surrounds. A pair of T15 bookshelves. My question was if i was to lay one of the speakers on its side- would that make much a difference in the listening experience? Yes i could mount them on the wall but i want to try to avoid having to find studs in my wall and drilling holes. The speakers are each about 7 feet off the ground. Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have a couple questions about how to position my surround speakers. Here's a quick picture of my living room where I bought some Paradigm Cinema 400's to mount on the wall.

My couch is up against the back wall and there is no wall on the right side which means I can't mount my surround speakers perpendicular to the couch (facing each other).

Because of that, should I mount my speakers on the rear wall on either side of the couch? If I mount them a little above ear height when sitting but flush with the wall (facing straight to the front, not towards the couch) will that be a major problem?

Thanks for the help!

does the surrounds at 2ft above ear level still a thing with 5.1.4 system? Still reading it is. but also read I forgot where the surrounds at ear level. And if they're behind you do they need to be pointed at ear level?
