I'm not sure how "circulated" the film is, but one of my favourite finds has been Smart People. It's available on Blu-ray. Here's my review: http://www.eyecrave.net/dvd-bd/blu-r...blu-ray-review

Also available on BD, Night Watch and Day Watch are pretty wicked as well. The are Russian productions, but are very good!

Technically it's not released yet but I love Phoebe In Wonderland. The performance are uniformly fantastic and if there is any justice in the world Elle Fanning will be as big as her sister was/is.

I will make a thread once it's closer to the release date =].

marty-- with ernest borgnine-- the story of a men who never had any luck with women and who finally find the one for him-- great movie, nominated for 8 academy awards, won 4 including best picture 1955.

where the heart is-- with natalie portman-- the story of a down on her luck southern girl who put her life together with the help of strangers who become her surrogate family.

those are my gems...

I had mentioned this in another thread as a film that really moved me. Has anyone seen, Beyond Borders (2003)? A fairly recent gem, imo. I don't think it was in theaters, or if it was, not for long or in all areas. It has Clive Owen (awesome) and Angelina Jolie (only role I liked her in).
from wiki-"Although it reflected Jolie's real-life interest in promoting humanitarian relief, the film was critically and financially unsuccessful." I found it to be a multi-dimensional movie. Moving, dark, intense, frustrating and thoughtful.

I'm sure I will think of more, this one just happens to be on my mind at the moment.

Go ahead. I won't put you in the same catagory as him if you don't start trying to bring your threads back to life. Bruce's thread kept falling out of the spot light, so he reasked the question 3 times in a row to bring it back.

My goal is simple Blu Man, I just want to create a spark or buzz and get people talking and feeling something fresh. We all love movies, they take us back to a time and place or to people who may have been forgotten. If it's just for a brief moment say 100 posts, then i'm a happy man.

This is a great and usefull thread. Thanks OP. This is also one of my favorite things to do...digging up obscure films and finding the gems.

Well known on this site, but hardly mainstream are two of my favorites. Serious and thought provoking.

Grave of the Fireflies
Hard Candy
