I don't know what it is, am I not "used" to them anymore or what? They sounded, umm, like out of tune if that makes any sense. It was rather depressing, i always liked them for music before.
A few things come to mind but I aint sure if any will help you out...

Is your system properly calibrated ? Proper speaker placement might help also... are they up close to a wall? straight palced or toe-in? Try giving them at least 8" to 12" from the back wall if possible, spread them a little further a part... I had the same issue with my original Connoisseur C5's. My problem was spacing... I moved them approx a foot away from the back wall and went from 5' apart to almost 8' and gave a small toe-in. And I added an Ikea rug. All these small things helped balance it out. The last thing I can think of proper is room treatment... without going into the full on panels, something like a 4' x 8' rug from Ikea might help out. These are little things I did and it helped out.

+1

Also, distance from the side walls, they should be given about 18" from the side walls if possible, they need space to image and through a wide soundstage.

was it a new piece of music? it could be what you were playing it through(ie. source)

I was just listening through the radio this weekend and the sound was great, better bass then it seems I get from CDs, and I was in 2-channel w/o a sub.

Good to see you back, was wondering where you disappeared off to.

Did you happen to listen to some really high end gear lately?

I have that feeling when I come back home after auditioning some Totem Acoustics speakers but when I compare to others, C-500 really sound good.

From what I remember your setup was placed quite properly, I don't remember exactly since your pics are gone but you also mentionned that you really liked 60hz X-over, did you play with that since?. Could they be out of phase? one of the 2 speakers plugged in reverse just by mistake.

I really like that V10 of yours

Default RC-10's on the way

Well, I just called Vanns and ordered the RC-10's. Of course the sales rep was trying to sell me the 95 dollar set of cables, but I told him I was going to shop around for that. I think 14 gauge should be good right?
Also, he said when I'm ready for that center, the RC mini would be fine for my small room so we'll see when I'm ready for that. What I may end up doing though, is ordering another set of RC-10's down the road.
I was on ebay over the weekend and came across a guy selling a used pair, and the last bid on it was 137 with about 6 hours to go. I thought hard about it but couldn't bring myself to bid on it. When it comes to electronics, I have a hard time buying stuff used like that. Thanks for all your help guys. Can't wait to listen and give my opinion on these.

Can't wait to hear your impressions of the RC-10's. I still haven't made any decisions on which speakers to buy.

Well, after a whole lot of conversation, and based on all I've read for the past week or so, I decided to "pull the trigger" as they say here. I'm sure they'll sound fine. I'll be in touch and let you know what I think. Leaving work now, I'll check back in later.

Miker,
Based on the specs, Id suggest the RC-LCR because you could have the same crossover point on the front soundstage, if you use the mini center the low frequency is too high, and you could hear some uneven panning across the front soundstage.

Ok, you guys have been telling me that, and I'm sure the guy was just trying to sell me on something immediately, because as I was checking out he was already adding the center to my order, and I just got finish telling him I was going to be adding that later. But hey, that's how sales are. I use to be an Insurance agent so I know how it is. The LCR or another RC-10 are my best options for a center according to what I've read so for in this thread.

that is also why i order online and not over the phone... they can't F with me. And I am sure to get what I want, and not have to hear their BS.

The Mini could work, Im just saying its not the best option.

Yes, I normally buy online as well. I guess I just wanted to hear someone's opinion on the speaker. The guy praised it and said it was a great speaker. He didn't try to talk me out of it and try and sell me something else so I guess that's a good thing.

I just remembered that months ago I decided ti bi-amp my fronts since I'm only using 5.1 on 7.1 receiver just for the hell of it. I know it's not a true bi amp and all that but I just figured to try it. Didn't notice a difference in movies which is all I really tested it on since I havn't been listening to much music lately except on headphones, and never bothered to change it back. Perhaps this "bi-amping" is killing the sound..
I will try changing it back.

Oh, and I'm also at 80hz right now which is something I did when I started using the speakers for more movies and less music. That could be it too. Thanks.

Thanks for the suggestions dude. They are toed in, away from back wall and a good distance apart. I do have a rug infront, but there is a lot of bare hardwood in the room too still. They used to sound good though in the same setup, so im thinking the 2 things mentioned in my other post.

I'l play around with my settings. Havn't touched any of it for so long, I didn't think of it.

Good luck on the sale Arrt! Prices are good and everything look mint. I'd love to grab the eD for my future 2 channel system... Sadly funds are a little tight.

thanks for the sentiment. i've had some interest on the sub and center, but nothing so far on the towers which i thought would sell first cause they're impossible to find.

i really will miss my energys. they were the first "real" set of speakers i've owned(and i've owned the polk monitor series as well), but too many trips to magnolia did the energys in. deftech supertowers will be at my door on friday

This has been plauging me too.... funny tho, its the Energy CF-70s that are doing in my C-300s...

Whats with selling the eD? Just for the extra money, or that the DTs have the built in subwoofer? Or Both?

new towers w/ built in subs is the reason...i think if i had the a2-300 plus the a3s-250 plus the supertower subs, then my eardrums would rupture...

and it also offsets the cost...deftechs ain't cheap...

ive been over to big daddys house and he has 2 hsu subs, 2 diys and then the supertowers also.... yes 6 subs.....and 10 speakers in his HT room.... it sounds great, you would be fine with 4 subs, you just have to dial them in so they are all level matched.

dunno if i would have the patience for setting up 4 subs. i still don't know exactly how i'm going to set up my deftechs once i get them...choice b/t speaker wire vs. lfe input...will probably try speaker wire and setting them to "large" at first to avoid additional wiring.

2 subs is definitely enough now, so i'll be adding one more than what i currently have...i don't think i'll be starved for additional bass... down the road this summer i may be upgrading the a2-300 too...stay tuned...
