is RC30 supposed to be the new and improved version of c300? (going off the numbering). im still waiting for my c500 deal to go through or go for a pair of RC30 for $450 (no center included in the package). i compared the specs on the two, while the c500 is bigger it seems like the performance (numberwise) is better on the RC30

The CF30 replaced the C300s, the CF50 replaced the C500 and the CF70 is a new speaker

the RC series is the Reference Connosieur series and they are a step up for the series above.

good job, you will be very happy with the RC-30s. I'm jealous....

I think you may find that you could be happier with the RCLCR though because it has the bigger 5.5" woofers that would match your RC-30s, When you set it all up check to see if you need to turn the volume up and down to hear the dialog, if so you may want to trade up to the larger center channel.

thanks, i know but right now i cant spend that much. if i find a decent job i definitely will be trading up for the better center.

i did listen to them at a local future shop (i know not the best option) and was impressed in those surroundings.

I am glad you got to hear it first, just thinking that it may not have as much symmetry across the front. But I think if you turn up the center channels gain in your receiver you will be just fine. I had to do that with my old sonys cause the center was just too small for the fronts. It turned out to be ok.

Because of the Sony, I made sure with the speakers I have now that I got the bigger center. Just looking out for you...

just keep in mind that Energy does recommend that you sit back twice as far as the speakers are apart.... now for me and my living room that doesn't work so I sit the same distance back as they are apart and it works great for imaging. Although if I am in the dinning room they do sound more uniform, but just a little.

i see. i will adjust the level depending how it sounds out of the box. of course wont be able to crank it up too much the first couple of weeks while breaking them in. btw it turned out to be US $390 for the RC-30 pair.

this was by pure luck... patience? what's that. if we had patience to wait and wait and wait we wouldnt have the stuff we have now.

im excited these are my first "real" speakers going from a small yamaha HTiB. i have no doubt about these speakers as i havent really seen any negative reviews anywhere.

havent heard of any Energy specific quirks or issues, other than making sure to break them in for about 100 hours (which is not Energy specific thing)

thanks for all your assistance on this thread.

Got some new pics up of the setup with the new Mini's. Tested it all out with Hellboy 2 (7.1). Really improved the rear soundstage! Sound moves around more seamlessly now. I just wish I had a better way to mount them. Now that my RC-LCR's are broken in, the whole system just sounds incredible. VERY happy with these speakers!!!!

very nice looking setup, I like the way the color you choose for the speakers matches your Entertainment center....

I noticed you mounted the mini rears "upside-down" if you will. I would have thought to mount them the other way around. Do they sound better in that position or was there some other reason for choosing to mount them that way?

It was more a matter of what worked than anything else. The position of the mounting bracket and where it connects on the back of the speaker, as well as how close they are to the ceiling, required that I mount them that way (that's why I said I wish I had a better way to mount them). I could have mounted them rotated 90 degrees but I wouldn't have been able to rotate them to a downward facing angle.

Ahh, that makes sense. They still look nice and I'm sure they sound even better. I really wish the black RC-mini's would get anywhere near that $99 price so I can finish my 5.1 setup.

Thanks. Yeah, I'm not sure why the cherry's are so cheap and the black ash is not. They must have had excess inventory or something. The RC line's cherry finish versions were getting hard to find there for a while. Now it seems like they're pouring out of the woodwork, so to speak.

awesome to see great setups like yours.

so, i got my RC-30's on saturday and hooked them up (took pix that will be posted shortly). they really make a lot of difference in the sound. as you can see from my old pix didnt have much in terms of "quality" speakers.

anyway, the rc mini center is not coming. couldnt get it in rosenut so i cancelled it. i might try to get the RC-LCR if i can find it in rosenut anywhere - credit card will have to take another hit :-).

question for you experts here... port plugs in or out on the rc-30's?

Here is the Rosenut RCLCR

Port plugs, you need to play with this yourself, usually smaller rooms where the speakers cannot be pulled out far enough from the walls use them, but it is gonna take playing with them, in vs out and room dimension and everything will be your determining factor.
