If I waited to buy C-50's and couldn't get any, would polk Monitor 30's work well as surrounds with my Energy's?

thanks 4x12, I know there was someone a couple pages back that had some C8's and I think he needed a center, perhaps he will see that post.

Understand that surrounds don't have to match. The Monitors would do fine, and sound close enough that it wouldn't be an issue. However, in my experience, the Energys have better mid-range depth and detail. But really whatever you use for surrounds should be fine.

Hey arrt

So I was at BB today to exchange a movie that I got for Xmas that I already own, and of course I had to stop in listen to some receivers. I listened to the Yamaha 765, Pioneer Elite 23, and a couple others just to hear them again, but nothing seriously. Cars was playing and I had them both at -18.5 and then at -10 and -4. They were outputting through Vienna Acoustics Bach's I believe... Or Mozarts, but either way, not my favorite speakers.

I really thought the Yamaha was holding its own with the Pio Elite. I am really thinking that I want to buy a Yamaha receiver now.... Oh and I told the wife what I was doing... she didn't say anything about it.

yeah, from the rx v765 and up i think yamaha got it right this year. i got mine last may for $425 from 6ave.com. i was trying to pick an rx v863 off of ebay, but got tired of getting beat out for them at the last minute. once i read the reviews of the 663 last year, i knew i was going yammy. it's really easy to use, has great reliability, doesn't get hot enough to fry an egg, and has the all important pre-outs just so you feel covered for the future...

Cool. I hope he grabs this because this is a serious upgrade for a center channel. When I finally got mine I couldn't beleive the difference in tone, sound and clarity between this and the C-50 i had. Night and Day!!

Well I think this guy was saying that he had his C2 bookshelf speakers for like 10 years and never for the center for it. Now for $50 it would be an awesome way to get the center channel he needs.

Thats right you were mix-matching different series of speakers... Too bad you found the CC1 so close to upgrading and not a few years before...

Well that is good to know. Its really gonna come down to selling my Sony now. Its really the main factor in all of this at the moment. I really think I would rather the 765 at the moment, I like the sound and the added HDMI port... just in case, but either will be wonderful. I really didn't hear a difference between the 765 or the 1065 when I heard them today.

yeah, there's much of a diff b/t the two. i think the 1065 just has the upgraded gui. they're pretty much the same weight. there's a guy who reviewed both the 765 and 1065 on amazon and said you're better off w/ just the 765. i agree, especially for the price difference.

I didn't think so when I was listening to them... at -18.5 dbs they sounded the same... I almost thought the 765 sounded louder. As far as GUI, its nice, but certianly not the make or break feature. Half the time I don't even use the GUI on my Sony, I just go in the old fashioned way.

the OSD on the 765 is straight from the 80s but gets the job done. -18.5db is pretty freaking loud in my room.

yeah, on my Sony -18 and -24 is about where i watch most TV... I like things a little loud. However right now its 12:30 am and I am at -37 and can still hear the TV enough to hear the anouncers of the this replay of the houston-Air force bowl game.

I bought my C-300s from them and my single C-50. They were great. One of my C-300s were damaged when it came and they let me keep the damaged one until the new one showed up, then I sent the damaged one back to them and they paid for it all. They also let me buy just ONE C-50, and it showed up damaged and they sent me the other one fromt he same box, but shipped it in the original box and I sent the other damage one back.... they already knew me because of the C-300 and I kept the damaged C-50 for almost a week because Vince the Shipping Manager was still on vacation...

I too am on the west coast as you know, and they were great to me. I am always looking to buy from them if I can.
