![]() Good point. Blu-Ray is designed to support single and dual layer discs as standard. However, although the recently announced Pioneer BDR-101A PC drive can read dual layer discs, it can't write to them because the specifications for dual layer recording aren't quite finalised yet. Pioneer and Philips both intend to launch fully compatible dual layer burners around the middle of the year, and because capacity is such a major issue on computers these days it is likely that dual-layer capable burners will become the norm. It's always worth checking before you buy though ... |

I think the Spec has been approved. I haven't heard anything about Panasonic delaying their burner (I won't be supprised if they do) and that is a dual layer burner. I though the only outstanding specs were for 4+ layers. Mind you the last batch of specs were only approved a few weeks ago,

Panasonic have been behind the dual layer for quite some time.
In Japan, the Pan recorder does the 50GB discs. It would not surprise me to hear that the 50GB spec is largely based on their development. So there is unlikely to be a delay for their drive. Also, I really don't see the point in a single layer drive like the Pioneer when you know dual layer is so close behind. I am hanging put for the Panasonic drive myself ![]() Cheers! |
