I don't have a PS4 so I can't vouch for it but I do own an Oculus Rift and you can watch 3D movies on a simulated 80 foot screen in a virtual theater. If you can handle wearing the unit for the length of a movie it's an amazing way to get a real theater experience at home.

Yes. You have to download Littlstar VR Cinema app from the Playstation store. (It's Free). Then you have to Download Handbrake on your PC to convert the file to something the PSVR will be able to display Then create a Littlstar Folder to place your 3D file after Littlstar converts it. It will appear there after conversion. Add Littlstar folder to a Flash drive. This how I do it. C:\U\P\Videos\Lilttlstar\Avatar Theatrical Trailer_3d_3dff_sbs.mp4 Press Encode and Handbrake converts the file automatically. Then transfer the 3D file to the Littlstar folder on your flash drive. Insert in PS4. Goto TV&Videos. Select Littlstar App on your PS4 and after it loads select Library section. Enjoy your 3D video file on the PSVR.

I've tried VR in headset form, as well as with those cardboard packs that convert a smartphone screen into a VR headset, and while I can see the appeal for video games, I have to say it's a pretty ****in' dumb replacement for passive entertainment like movies. Especially those "smartphone VR" systems, it's like a really poor man's 3D TV.

It makes no sense to me -- the VR headsets are more cumbersome to wear than 3D glasses and the screen door effect is very obvious and obnoxious. VR headsets still aren't a high enough resolution so I find the 3D experience on my 4K TV to be a much more enjoyable experience due to a lack of the screen door effect since the screen isn't right up in my eyeballs.

Another thing I don't understand is why VR porn is so popular but 3D porn never took off. I've found that you can take these VR porn videos and convert them to 4K side-by-side stereoscopic 3D videos, apply a defish filter with Avisynth and a little bit of correction to the FOV, and you get an amazing experience on a 3D TV. I have one of the few 4K TV models that can accept a side-by-side 3D signal @ 3840x2160 resolution so I effectively get 3D 4K video this way. This is the type of porn that should have taken off 6-8 years ago when 3D TVs were at the height of their popularity, because it's a completely different experience with the 3D and the POV these VR videos are shot in. You don't feel like some cuck watching other people doing it anymore like you did with flat porn, you feel like you're actually there in the scene yourself with these converted 3D VR videos.

I have to say it is much more appealing to lay down on my couch and get relaxed in front of my 4K TV with a pair of 3D glasses on than it is to strap a helmet to my head and sit in a chair.

I do hope 3D movies on VR platforms takes off though, because us 3D TV owners need a replacement for 3D Blu-ray. I need some way to get 3D content on my 3D TV in the future. If that means I have to take Hollwood movies formatted for VR and apply some Avisynth script work like I've done with these VR porn videos, then so be it.

But have you tried PSVR? It is considered by far the most comfortable headset on the market. I own it and I have gamed for 4 hours without a single issue.
Also, future headsets will become lighter and lighter.

I think his comments were strictly based on watching movies, or "passive entertainment" as he puts it, not videogames though.

Watching 3D movies with a VR headset is a nice feature for those who want/need it, but it doesn't hold any value for me personally. VR gaming is my only objective with the PS VR headset, I'll stick with my TVs and projector for 3D movie watching.

Same with me. I will always prefer that method but we are approaching desperation times and I still think a headset is very viable option for someone who cant afford a projctor or maybe hasn’t got the space. I think people get too hung up on the resolution thing when in fact the 3D is still mighty fine through the headset. Some of the pop outs were staggering imo. Also, it still looks HD just not as sharp as Blu-ray.

Also, the PSVR headset sits great on the head and is far more comfortable than rival headsets. It’s not fair that the guy judges without trying it for a couple of hours. The point is, if it’s comfortable for 4 hours of gaming, there is a good chance it will be fine for a 2 hour movie.

Just got a PS VR a few days ago, mainly for 3D blu-ray. As I've unfortunately never had a 3D tv I've been unable to watch my 3D movies until now, which I'm collecting since I forsee most of them selling out in the near future. The experience so far has been phenomenal (except for the audio but it's not a big deal), and I'm experiencing new versions of a lot of films I missed in theaters!

Pretty much a non-post just to show how excited I am, I didn't think I'd be able to watch 3D movies until I actually invested in a true projector. I also love how the headset sorta makes it look like a theater

New user here. The one thing I haven’t seen mentioned in any of the forums on 3d titles yet is Virtual Reality headsets making 3d movies totally viable. I have been building up a collection of 3D movies (physical format) and then converting those discs I own into Side By Side MPEG files. I then load these onto my Oculus Go ($199) and can watch in full 3d in a theatre environment on a virtual huge screen. I also use the free program Big Screen to host 3D movie nights with my friends online and watch 3d movies together. I am late to the 3D game so I am sorry - but now that I am here I am sad to see so many movies (like bumblebee) not get a 3d release for the home.

I like Bigpicture, and I have done the same with my Oculus Rift . What program do you use to convert your movies to sbs?

Have converted some Blu-Ray 3D movies to SBS, and it's neat on the VR glasses. (Used DVDFab10 with the lifetime license option. Bit pricey upfront, but it's lifetime! ) Still prefer TV viewing (passive 3D, 4K), but it is good to know that there's a good available option if the TV ever goes out. Can also stream 3D movies to the 3DS, but the quality is obviously quite poor. Better than nothing! (R)

I use DVD Fab 11. Went with the lifetime option - was around 100 bucks or so. Well worth it. Movies look incredible rendered in Full Side by Side vs Half Side By Side. I too have a Rift, but watching the content on an Oculus Go is so much clearer due to the higher resolution it offers for media consumption.

The good people at CineOutsider have received a review copy of The Mad Magician, and have confirmed that if you have a Playstation VR headset, the 3D works just as well on that as it does on a full-scale 3D TV setup. This may also be true of other VR systems.

Why wouldn’t it?

If it’s 3D Blu-ray, it’s working on a PSVR headset, period.

Please note though, the picture quality isn’t going to be as good as a LED or OLED display (or projector) due to the limitations of the first generation headset. The picture will be slightly fuzzy (grainy and less crystal clear). This is because of the magnification of the lenses and the fact you don’t get full HD per eye.

Having said all that, it’s still looks like HD and the pop out looks astounding because it’s so close to your eyes.

Game wise, if anyone is interested, 3D 360 gaming is incredible. So immersive.

Yes 3D gaming is an incredible experience but taxing. I also suggest vr fans experience The Void if they have one nearby.

3d movies though, to me are much more fun with friends and that’s where a nice big screen in a high end home theater gets the cake.

Can’t wait for my friends to experience Mad Magician in my 3D theater!

I always watch on my HT but the guy didn’t have the space so rather than miss out, a VR headset is a option.

I do t find VR taking, I find it relaxing.
