Default Solarrdadd aka The BrOdinson at 2018 NYCC!

Yep, Yep, tomorrow is the first day of the BIG SHOW!

my trusty side kick, my Daughter, and I will be at the show for 3 days as usual. Friday, Saturday and Sunday. we will arrive in NY tomorrow and we are staying in Brooklyn.

I'm glad to be back with you, my loving followers for all (or as much as possible) things NYCC!

my thanks to everyone who looks at this thread and enjoys it. please feel free to leave comments.

also, if there is something in particular you want me to get pictures of, please post it here and i'll do my best to find the things requested and get pictures posted.

almost packed, just slowly putting the outfit in the suitcase; don't want to forget anything!

as usual, I have made some modifications, changes to my outfit. the shoes I have used for the last bunch of Comic Cons, well, I have worn them out. we literally walk at least 10-15K+ steps every day at the show; around 7.5 + miles. so I needed a new pair which means paint and prep.

I went over those black buckle lines after the painting and the black pops nicely.

I also wanted to change the calf wraps (which are part of the shoes Thor wears) the ones I had for the past couple of years used snaps to hold them to the calf. I put the snaps all the way through and they are visible. look closely to the bottom left of the picture and you will see them, they are yellow, as they had nothing close to the golden yellow material used for the wraps.

IMG_6297.JPG

I figured out that I can make the snaps (yes, you have to make them individually with a tool they are in two parts and it takes four parts to make a male and female snap) and hot glue them to the underside of the wrap so they are not seen. that will make for a cleaner appearance. of course, there will be a "bulge" for the snap, but, it won't be too noticeable unless the pictures taken are very close or super high rez and get zoomed in post production.

so, I had to buy 2 yards of the material to cut out two of the strips you see in the picture! yep, that's how it goes when you cosplay!

Default Helmet Part Deux!

so, I'm always trying to improve everything as you guys all know, I'm a golden age Thor the one by Jack King Kirby so, I'm always gathering my inspiration from that version of Thor, not the MCU version and there is nothing wrong with the MCU version either.

that old school Thor is the one I grew up with as a kid. one of the things Thor is most noted for, besides his hammer, is that beautiful reflective silver winged helmet. i really wanted a full chromed out helmet, but, i couldn't find a place that could do it. mind you, i waited until the last minute to look, so, that's on my.

i found a kit for it and i figured it would at least give me a chrome like look/effect to the existing helmet, i would be happy with that. so, i gave it the old college try!

here is my trusty old helmet, with the wings removed of course. not much of anything, but, it looked good in the pictures of the previous NYCC threads i created.

IMG_6312.JPG

it's a flat grey color with some sheen added to it and like i said, when the show floor lights hit it, it was nice and never got a complaint or anything from anyone. i always wanted it to have a nice chrome effect to it.

i will put them in spoilers for dramatic effect!

here is a front/side view with the chrome effect applied overhead counter lights for dramatic effect on the color rendering.

yeah, I'm gonna do them individually!

here is a shot of the back view

and here is a final front/side view

I'm very happy with how my DIY kit approach turned out, i wanted to try to put more on it for a higher degree of chrome effect but was afraid that using too much would just look like a shiny, non-reflective silver and the instructions warned about that. I'm pretty sure if i had just gone a little heavier with the chrome, it would have looked better, but, i didn't want to take that chance. i'll get another helmet (they are like $30 on ebay) and get that one professionally chromed. i'll save this one for non Comic Con events like movie theater/mall cosplay for superhero movies (we've done it for Avengers movies & Thor movies) that my Daughter and i do sometimes.

so i went light and till got a pretty nice look for the helmet, at least, i think so.

i will cosplay Thor BrOdinson both days and my Daughter will cosplay Poison Ivy on Friday and Gamora (GoTG) on Saturday. on Sunday, we go to the show in our secret identities as everyday people!

next pictures will be once we get started on the trip! it's not easy posting from my iphone, so, i'll post a couple of pictures each night after the show. our days are filled up with picture taking, floor booth exploring and panel attendance battling!

Be vigilant, Asgardian. Word on the street is Loki is looking to stroke your Mjölnir. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Hey everyone, I haven't posted anything because ol Solarrdadd's old PC OS drive gave up the ghost!

It happens!

So since I keep all my data on a second drive I'm good. I'm gonna do some light upgrades and should be back online late this week.

My old OS drive was a 250gb drive I'm going to a Samsung 1tb EVO860 SSD
I'm also changing out the data drive from a 500gb drive to a 2tb 5400 SATA drive.
To cap it off I got a cheap nVidia single slot 4K graphics card so now when I upgrade to a 4K monitor/TV I can stream videos, movies & TV shows at 4K!

Total cost was $340 shipped. I like my old motherboard, and case and am plenty happy with the existing quad core CPU and current Ram.

When I'm rolling again and have transferred the data to the new data drive I'll post pictures of NYCC.

The pictures are too big for me to post them from my phone or iPad. Especially the ones from my DSLR.

Please be patient and I'll get posting by this weekend.
