![]() Petition to Shut Sown Sadistic Haunted House Gains 70K Signatures by Ben Feuerherd October 31, 2019 An online petition with the goal of shutting down a haunted house challenge in Tennessee has gained more than 70,000 signatures after critics called the so-called “haunt” an excuse for a sadistic torture chamber. The change.org appeal appeared online just ahead of Halloween, urging the Tennessee state senate to take action against Mckamey Manor in Summertown. “Advertised as ‘an extreme haunt’ when in fact it is NOT a haunted house. It’s a torture chamber under disguise,” wrote Frankie Towery, the organizer of the appeal. Russ McKamey, operator of the haunted tour, claims a full experience is a 10-hour endurance challenge. Participants must sign off on tooth pulling, finger breaking or head shaving, present proof of a passed physical and take a background check, according to their website. “It’s literally just a kidnapping [and] torture house,” Towery adds in the appeal to shut the operation down. “I propose that all locations where this is happening be shut down immediately.” https://nypost.com/2019/10/31/petiti...0k-signatures/ |

It's obviously not a good idea to go. Even the footage that is shown to the public looks like torture. People are getting assaulted, waterboarded, forced to drink sewage, exposed to extreme cold or heat, locked in confined spaces for extended periods of time, etc. And I remember reading a common theme is for them to blindfold the guests and place earphones over their heads while playing extremely loud sounds so they're completely disoriented and depriving them of their survival instincts. It's probably even worse during the moments when they aren't filming or at least for the footage not uploaded online. A lot of folks probably see the videos and think to themselves that it's not that bad or that perhaps it's mostly marketing/hype or paid actors, etc. From what I've read, it appears that they will ignore or mock anyone who tries to 'quit' by asking to stop or trying to use a safe word. They seem to have no regard for the safety of their 'guests.'
