Deathtrap is pretty huge.

It's a great film and the dvd...well, let's just say there's plenty of room for improvement.

great, more burned BD's like they did with DVD. basically it's paying for a bootleg in my opinion. same limited lifespan that all burned media goes through. I pay for pressed media for a reason.

Deathtrap is a great flick. Christoper Reeve was fantastic in that, one of his best. It will be nice to finally have it available in its OAR.

Absolutely.

Being from the Newcastle means it is one of my favourite films, just to see what the city used to look like. Although Blyth is still a dump.

I certainly hope it's not from Warner Archive. To start with, the DVD editions had some extras, including a director's commentary. I would much rather see this come out as a Special Edition with some new retrospective interviews, even if its simply done as a local Warner UK release, or through licensing the film.

I know when the idea was first mentioned, it was pointed out that BD-R media is still felt "too volatile" for Warner Archive, so perhaps these will be pressed, unlike the DVDs.

I will go on record at this point and say that I, personally, am highly unlikely to buy any BD-R media release from a commercial label.

I'm confused. So these movies have never been released on DVD before either? Is that the whole point?

Because Hudsucker and Fearless have.

It says they'll be pressed/replicated discs right in the press release:

"WAC reports that the Blu-ray discs will be replicated in limited quantities and fulfilled on demand."

Translation: pressed discs, and they order a new batch of pressed discs when they run out of the current batch.

No, they've been on DVD, though Deathtrap and Fearless were 1.33:1 instead of their proper Widescreen.

So will these releases have ENG subtitles, or is that too much to ask? If they're BD-Rs, then I already know the answer is no.

I don't know about subtitles, but they're not BD-Rs.

Again, from the press release:

"WAC reports that the Blu-ray discs will be replicated in limited quantities and fulfilled on demand."

Translation: pressed discs, and they order a new batch of pressed discs when they run out of the current batch.

Yeah, but I wouldn't take the wording from a press release as gospel. I'm pretty sure they'll be BD-Rs--and paying $20+ for BD-Rs is kinda weak.

On the other hand, if they were limited pressings of actual blu-rays, that would be pretty gnarly.

with the death of retail this is the future for pressed media anyway.
might as well get it started.
sooner or later expect Universal, Fox, MGM, etc. to follow.

for the moment it appears these will be "real" bds, not bd-r's.
there are too many issues with bdr's working in all the different players out there.
the idea is more like TT, where the studio can control the price of a limited amount of copies of lesser known titles.

I think they will be pressed discs also. In fact some Warner Archive DVD releases such as Alice Season 1 + Season 2 i bought as soon as they were announced... the cover art isn't exactly store quality but the discs were pressed. They were not DVD-R. (Furture pressings are probably DVD-R)
