I already own the 2012 Canadian Blu-ray for the first "Emmanuelle" film from Alliance. Wasn't willing to wait six years for a U.S. release. I was 15 when I saw the first film at a movie theater on Paris' Champs-Élysées. For some reason, the movie included English subtitles even though I saw it in France. Anyway, the lesbian scenes screwed up my 15-year-old brain. I saw this film just a couple of weeks after already seeing "Caligula" also on Paris' Champs-Élysées. Today, scenes from both of these movies don't mean anything to me anymore.

The first 2 follow the usual pattern:
—So we got a sleeper hit in our hands. Quick! Let's release a bigger louder amped-up sequel asap! And they succeeded admirably. The Anti-Virgin lives up to its title and its ambitions. The third one however is a totally different animal. Brand new writer-director and his female co-writer, and it's like they saw the first 2, they hated them intensely, and then they decided to take over and sabotage and undo everything that the initial diptych stood for. They took the happy slut that banged anything with a pulse and they made her "fall in love" with some douchebag who makes her renege her slutty ways and her pimp/husband. An absolute disgrace. That said, they should have gone full retard and release a Complete Emmanuelle box set with all the sequels and spin-offs: http://imdb.com/title/tt0071464/movieconnections And then of course, a supplementary box set for the Black Emmanuelle franchise: http://imdb.com/title/tt0072930/movieconnections/ |

I'm really hoping someone does Emmanuelle 4-7 on blu-ray. I'm particularly interested in part 4, and Borowczyk's Emmanuelle 5. I know Studio Canal has restored widescreen versions that were screening on French cable a few years back.

I'd be down for Emmanuelle 4 as that at least had Kristel handing over the reins to Swedish Mia Nygren, now that's some plastic surgery!
I'd also like to see Kristel's 90s return to the franchise entertaining George Lazenby with stories of her youth (with Marcela Walerstein as the younger Emmanuelle). ![]() |

So this big news is the Kinos are announced as Unrated versions. Am I right that the previous blu-ray releases were only the R versions? I'd hate to double dip on all these for nothing. It would also be interesting to see if there is much reason to hold onto the R versions. I know I won't be sitting through A/B comparisons myself.

Glad to see these are finally available, and I'd likely pick them up for nostalgia's sake if they were available in a single Triple Feature, but individually I'll probably pass. Now if they get some Laura Gemser out there, I might have to re-think that strategy...

Edit: Watched this (the UK Optimum disc) today. 94 minutes is the correct run time on this disc. I really like the movie, particularly the first hour. The last act and listing to the Mario characters b.s. philosophy was less enjoyable, even if there were some good scenes. Sylvia Kristel is really beautiful. Before this, I'd only seen her in the Linda Blair women in prison flick "Red Heat" where she plays a total *****, so it was fun seeing her in a more innocent role. The documentary on it mentiones some scenes being cut for the US (the vagina smoking scene), and maybe a few other edits. That was in the version I saw, so maybe the upcoming US release being listed as "uncensored" just means its restored to its full lenght. Still, I'm curious about that longer run time. There are a few points in the movie where it seems like there should be a sex scene, but it just gets skipped over (the massage parlor at the beginning, Emmanuelle and Ariane at the tennis court, and Emmanuelle and Bee at the waterfall). If the Kino release has additional footage it these areas, I'll consider the double-dip. Last edited by agentalbert; 02-12-2019 at 01:38 AM. |

One of my fondest interview memories was when a friend and I were interviewing Richard Attenborough for an audio commentary for The Sand Pebbles that Fox never used. When he was talking about how wonderful his costar Marayat Andrienne was and wondered what happened to her, I mentioned that she wrote Emmanuelle under the nom de plume Emmanuelle Arsan (at the time I don't think it was widely known it was actually her husband who wrote it), and that she claimed the book was autobiographical. His stunned silence and the look of complete shock on his face was a wonder to behold.
Ah, the things you see when you don't have a camera... Last edited by Aclea; 02-12-2019 at 12:02 AM. |
