Default HDR-SR12E compatibility with PS3 playback

Hi,

I am in the market for one of these cameras as it was recommended very highly to me. Can someone please tell if the native video format is a standard the PS3 supports without conversion?

This would be one of the factors my decision is based on, thank you in advance.

Richie.

Is there nobody who knows if the Sony HD cameras use a native codec that the PS3 can playback without conversion?

Geez, thought this would be easy.

I haven't tried just copying the files directly to a disc to see. I have outputted as MPEG 2 and AVC from Sony DVD Architect 5, and it works fine on both PS3 and BDP-S350. AVC looks a bit better than MPEG 2. Just buy the camera and experiment with it! It is part of the fun. I will have a go with what you want a bit later and get back to you.

Richie.
i recently purchased the hd sr11, which is identical to 12 with the exception of having 60gb to 120gb of hard drive space. So far i used the software provided to burn the avc files to dvd, and played them with no issue on the ps3, they output in their native 1080i, no upscaling. I also tried plugging the camera via usb cable directly into the ps3. This also works and the camera shows up in the list of icons under video, you are able to browse and play video files from the camera's hard drive. Since you have the E version, I assume its PAL? so your ps3 and tv also might have to support PAL. or maybe it doesnt matter for high definition formats.

Yeah it probably has to be PAL, i have had trouble doing 1080i/50 on USA spec Sony TVs and PS3, if in a PAL country, with PAL HDTV and PAL PS3, PAL SR12 etc, it will work all the same.

I'm in a pal country (UK) so that doesn't bother me. I don't want to convert massive HD files thats all.

Thanks for the update.
