3 definitely has the worst acting. The lead girl is cute, but damn, she's just awful.

Also in another underrated 80's slasher, Sweet Sixteen. Love that one.

She was in one of the Chuck Norris flicks. I can’t remember which is one.

Part 3 has become my favourite entry in the series.

I'm not looking for great acting in a Friday movie. I'm looking for great atmosphere, great looking girls and great kills. Friday 3 has all that plus it has the "best" Jason for me. It's also the one in which he gets his iconic hockeymask.

Therefore, it's easily the best Friday film for me.

I think Dana Kimmell (Chris) in Part 3 is good. One of my favorite entries.

Chris was so hot that even Jason wanted to get it on with her.

It really pulls itself together in that excellent third act. The atmosphere is fantastic and seeing it in true color 3-D is such a treat. I wasn't a fan for years, but a 3-D screening years ago changed that and allowed me to reevaluate it completely. Now it's my favorite after parts 2 and 4.

They established pretty early in the movie that Julius was cocky and pretty sure of himself. During the boxing match at the beginning and constantly being ready to run around the ship to hunt down whoever was killing people. I just assumed he thought he could take Jason and didn't care about the mask. It wasn't until the last 30 seconds of the fight that he realized he didn't stand a chance. LOL!

put on a hockey mask and let a boxer punch you in the face ten times.

then report back with a pain tally.

Decided to give 3 another watch last night and can't say the viewing improved my opinion of it. First you have to wait sixteen minutes to get to the actual movie and along the way we're treated to disgusting characters with none of the cartoonish charm of the rednecks people seem to hate in 5. The pig handling and eating everything in the store was bad enough but the graphic sounds of his sh*t dropping into the toilet while we watch him continue to drink is without a doubt more disgusting than any gore in this series.

People say all these movies had bad acting and while that's mostly true, there's a difference between B-movie acting and Z-movie acting; this features the latter. The woman reacting to discovering
[Show spoiler]Shelly's corpse
is just laughably bad as she slooowwwwllllyyy trots away from his body and manages to 'scream' while keeping her head perfectly still and looking at the ground. Speaking of Z-movies, the opening scene with the teenagers looks and sounds very much like something out of Hobgoblins (one of the most ambitiously bad movies MST3K ever did). I think Rick Sloane might have actually stolen the shot of the chick pointing at the 'burning' car.

That brings us to the stoners. They seem significantly older than the teens: how did these people become friends? I don't think they ever naturally interact with the rest of the cast throughout the whole film. Chris's love interest also feels significantly older than the teens; he looks and behaves more like a creepy stepfather than a horny teen. We're also informed that one of the teens is pregnant during the stoners' intro. This never comes back and and the woman in question is later
[Show spoiler]killed so the unborn child is also killed for no reason
. Lovely.

Then our heroes almost run over the film's Crazy Ralph. This is another scene that feels like it could have been in Hobgoblins only it includes a cheesy 3D effect. The use of faux Old English dialogue is downright bizarre.

We then spend several minutes with bikers who clearly exist only to pad the film but are still more entertaining than any of the main characters besides Shelly. My only complaint here is that
[Show spoiler]they don't manage to kill any of the main characters before they themselves are dispatched by Jason
. Well, that and the fact that the main piece of characterization for the 'Latina' (who is clearly very white) involves needing to use food stamps. Again, lovely. You have to wait a full 42 minutes to actually see Jason kill anyone in the main movie and of course it's
[Show spoiler]one of the superfluous bikers
. Oh, and they cut to a riveting yo-yo scene during all this.

Later we get to hear Chris explain her backstory and why the hell she's come back here. It makes no sense, doesn't belong in a F13 film (Jason is asexual in every other film and never lets helpless victims live) and is followed by the boyfriend/stepfather not giving a damn and immediately shifting his attention to his car. More padding I guess.

Once you get to about the 55 minute mark in this 1 hour and 35 minute movie it becomes a pretty competent slasher. But holy sh*t is it bad up to that point. Enjoyably bad, mind you, and it does mostly feel like a F13 film. This is no Jason Goes to Hell. Just make sure you have plenty of alcohol on hand while you watch.

Edit: Watching the special features now and I think Rick Sloane also used the shot of the stoners passed out on the couch in Hobgoblins. Only steal from the best, Rick.

I imagine the 3D effects would make this far more fun. Have to say that I don't think it has good atmosphere for the majority of the runtime however. Crystal Lake doesn't belong in Southern California. Part 4 does a much better job hiding its filming location.

Part 3 isn't great but it's fun. 4 is certainly better made but the whole "dead f#ck" thing gets really old on repeat viewings. I still think 2 is my favorite.

Either way, I think they all work best when viewed in pairs. 1 & 2, 3 & 4, I just watched 5 & 6 last night...good fun. Only 7 & 8 left then I'll switch to the Halloween series.

The hippie chick is the worst actress in the series.

Maybe you can call the chick that rejects Shelly as a white hispanic?

I would probably expect her to have more money than Shelly since he doesn’t seem to even take things seriously enough to really have much of a job. I can’t deny that what you say crosses my mind though.

Debbie (chick in the shower) seems to be the youngest of the cast. She was 20 when the movie was made.

Rick is about 3 years older than Chris. Not a huge deal. He does come off as older than his actual age though.

Chris point of being there seems to be a “face your fears” type of thing.
I do agree that the cast does come off as disconnected. Most of your complaints don’t really bother me though.

Rick is supposed to be an older caretaker at Chris' parents ranch that ends up involved with Chris, which her parents are not happy about, which is the fight she has with them the night she runs off and is attacked by Jason.
The only sense I've ever made of the relationships is that Chris invites her friend Debbie and her boyfriend Andy, and the rest are his friends.

This is here because the original Part 3 plot was supposed to follow Ginny, the survivor of 2, getting stalked by Jason while she's in a mental hospital (which would have ended up looking a lot like Halloween 2). Amy Steel didn't want to return, so the elements of Jason vs. a previous survivor turned into Chris. She was written to be a frantic, paranoid mess on the brink of a breakdown, but the actress wanted to play her strong instead. The original idea was that there was a sexual assault, an idea that was ditched before filming, add the actress wanting to play the character differently, and the end result is a lot of vagueness.

I started my Friday the 13th marathon lastnight with the original and man does that film ever have a great atmosphere! It's the only Friday the 13th film, next to Final Chapter and the third act of part 3, where the camp is actually very creepy. Watching it late at night with the lights out is quite effective.
