I preordered Northman from there as well. With the 20% off code, it is very tough to beat them. I also have Ambulance coming from them. I have toyed around with the idea of grabbing the [rec] collection, but can't quite seem to pull the trigger. I do love the American remake Quarantine though.

I hate Quarantine, because it's essentially a carbon copy of [REC]. It brings nothing new to the table. They even made a DTV sequel called Quarantine 2: Terminal, which I've heard is pretty awesome. The latter only ever got a DVD release I believe.

Correct on #2. The first Quarantine I saw before I saw REC, which is weird I know, so I loved it right away due to a lack of knowledge that it is a scene for scene copy.....but damn it sounded great.

You are going to go ahead and shame me into buying the set, aren't you?

By the way, I saw the Americanized version of Oldboy first also before the original.

I have The Northman and Ambulance pre-ordered from Gruv too. The site lists The Northman as coming out in two weeks. That's surprising since it came out two weeks after Ambulance yet would be getting released one week before it.

Where do you see it being released in two weeks?

GRUV doesn't have a release date at all from what I can see:

Just ordered the collection. Now up to 52 movies waiting to be seen for the first time. This week adds two more with Batman and Burning Sea. Looking ahead, there seems to be at least one movie each week I want to pickup straight through July. I seriously need a vacation to start chipping away at this list. I bet Vilya has me beat though.

I think I’ve seen the both. I only own quarantine.

I saw REC 3 I think, funny stuff.

Gotmule, - doesn’t everything on the NZ8 seem like you’re seeing it for the first time ever? For me it does even if it’s something I’ve seen on the setup last week.

Very long honeymoon phase for me with this PJ.

Agreed. This past week I started in on the movies waiting to be seen, kicking it off with News of the World. I chose that due to a sinus infection which has settled in my ears, and needed something not as dynamic from an audio standpoint. Breathtaking video from the 4K disc. The thing about the JVC is what it can do with a Blu-ray, as I just watched an episode of Narcos and the up conversation makes even a show like that stunning as well.

Speaking of projectors, Sapiendut has been absent for a bit. Hope everything is okay with our friend up North.

Well the jokes on you two. According to the projector shootout on YOUTHMAN's YouTube channel, their "expert" panel felt that my piddly JVC X570r (RS420) held it's own against your $30k laser JVCs once tone mapping was taken off it's workload...LOL..

Of course I'm taking that with a boulder sized grain of salt and am reporting it here with tongue planted firmly in cheek.....

... but that didn't stop me from ordering a ZIDOO 9X for it's Z10 tone mapping engine..LOL...

As far as SAPIENDUT is concerned, I'm hoping he's just busy as I've given his info out to a few JVC owners here in the GTA who were looking for professional calibration.

There is nothing wrong with ear phones, when I used to travel a lot and watch films in planes, I used to use earphones almost all the time not to disturb others. If I can't sleep and decide to watch a bit of something in bed I suse ear phones as well so that I don't wake her up.

That being said did you actually listen to the video.

1) at no point in the video does he say it is a replacement for a properly set up system.

2) around 5 minutes he explains how we hear and get directionality from our two ears, how the shape of our head, face and ears all changes the sound reaching each ear based on directionality. and how if it is headphones it assumes a dummy7 head that obviously won't be a perfect representation, but good enough for someone that does not care

3) he is missing one more aspect that should be obvious if you ever saw someone wondering where the noise is coming from (or you observed yourself in that situation). You move your head slightly so yo your brain can do triangulation using before and aft.er the move.

don't get me wrong, with object based sound in theory with a very powerful machine where you fully scanned your head and has some way of tracking the headphones (Anthony tilted his head x degrees and turned slightly to the left) you can mimic it perfectly. But that is not what we are talking about.

If headphones are good enough for you, then OK I have no issue with that, the same I don't have an issue with someone that is happy with 7.1 or 5.1 or stereo or mono system. But do they all give the same experience? No.

10-15 years away though!
I don't know to me VR sounds better then AR unless you can have both.

If I am in a plane (to go with my previous poste) I don't want the seats in front of me being a part of the picture. If I am in my kitchen I don't want the cupboards, if I am in the living room I don't want the feature wall and the couch in front of me.... Don't get me wrong if you are inches from a white wall AR is good, but anything else it better completely erase real reality,

exactly. I did not use up 1/3 of the basement and add three rows of seating for myself.

I am going into the hospital (again) for more tests on Wednesday and it should just be an overnight stay, but that all depends on what they find.

I am still having several problems that so far have defied any solution with the biggest one being my inability to gain any weight back. I lost 16.5% of my body weight when I was in the hospital last year and I have been unable to gain any of it back despite much effort.

I just wanted to explain my upcoming absence and please wish me luck if you are so inclined. [/SPOILER]
a bit late but I hope it all went well.

You and I would prefer it but this is the masses we are talking about. Having said that, I can see a time when mixed options would be available. Both technologies in other words.

Rec and Rec 2 are superb. Rec 4 was the weakest imo.

I am never talking about the masses. they are a figment in some peoples imagination. Projectors were never owned by the masses , it has not stopped me enjoying one and buying newer ones over and over again. the world is divided into different niches for everything with some being bigger and some smaller. You have people that buy luxury sports cars and there are cars for that niche and people that want minivans and there are cars for that niche and there are people that want SUVs , cheap compact.... and each of those niches are filled.

I think AR sounds cool and one day it might find its place I see it more related to a smartphone. If they find a way to make them completely opaque when needed (aka like VR) then I think they could be interesting for watching film and TV. But I don't think anyone wants to see a film appear like a ghost onto their wallpaper or the rest of the room.

That being said if the last two years have taught us anything it is that sometimes people want a real shared experience and so there will always be room for TVs and projectors or their future equivalent (like smart walls)

Box Office: ‘Doctor Strange 2’ Beats ‘Downton Abbey’ Sequel as Older Adults Remain Skittish - Hollywood Reporter 5/22
'Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' grossed $31.6 million in its third outing, followed by a $16 million opening for 'Downton Abbey: A New Era.'

Quote:
In another universe — i.e., before the pandemic — Downton Abbey the movie blew away all expectations when opening to $31 million in September 2019 in a record-best for specialty house Focus Features.

Much has changed in the time since.

The 2019 big-screen adaptation of Julian Fellowes’ hit British TV series was fueled by moviegoers 45 and older — a demo that has been the most reluctant to return to cinemas since the COVID-19 crisis struck, and particularly older females.

Over the weekend, Fellowes’ sequel Downton Abbey: A New Era Era opened to $16 million from 3,815 locations. While that was in line with prerelease tracking, it’s notably behind the first film and underscores the challenges facing movies relying on older consumers who could still be nervous about COVID, and whose habits have changed in the pandemic era as studios offer new releases in the home as soon as three weeks via premium VOD.

Certainly, Downton Abbey 2 attracted plenty of attention from those 55 and older (48 percent) in a promising sign, but the number of people turning out wasn’t at the same levels as in 2019, when consumers over 55 represented 52 percent the opening weekend audience. As with the first film, about 70 percent of A New Era audience was female.

Overseas, the well-reviewed Downton Abbey 2 has earned north of $35 million.

Written by Fellowes, the movie sees the Grantham family journey to the South of France to uncover the mystery of the Dowager Countess’ newly inherited villa. There’s also the matter of a movie crew using the Abbey to shoot a film.

Returning members of the principal cast and new additions include Hugh Bonneville, Laura Carmichael, Jim Carter, Raquel Cassidy, Brendan Coyle, Michelle Dockery, Kevin Doyle, Joanne Froggatt, Michael Fox, Harry Hadden-Paton, Robert James-Collier, Allen Leech, Phyllis Logan, Elizabeth McGovern, Sophie McShera, Tuppence Middleton, Lesley Nicol, Douglas Reith, Maggie Smith, Imelda Staunton, Penelope Wilton, Hugh Dancy, Laura Haddock, Nathalie Baye and Dominic West.

Marvel and Disney’s superhero pic Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness had no trouble staying atop the chart in its third weekend with $31.6 million for a domestic total of $342.1 million and $803.2 million globally to become the No. 2 film of the pandemic era behind Spider-Man: No Way Home ($1.8 billion).

Doctor Strange 2 achieved the feat after passing up James Bond pic No Time to Die ($774.2 million), released late last year, and the more recent superhero pic The Batman ($768.5 million).

Family films The Bad Guys and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 followed with $6.1 million and $3.9 million, respectively.

Bad Guys has now grossed $74.4 million domestically and $182.2 million worldwide, while Sonic 2 is approaching $400 million after finishing Sunday with $181 million domestically and $375 globally (one film that did cross the $400 million mark this weekend was Uncharted).

A24’s folk horror film Men opened nationwide in 2,212 theaters timed to its screening at the Cannes Film Festival this weekend. Directed by Alex Garland, the movie placed fifth with an estimated $3.3 million.

Fellow A24 title Everything Everywhere All at Once grossed $3.2 million to push the film’s domestic total to $52.3 million — the top-grossing film of all time for the indie distributor after passing up Uncut Gems ($50 million).
