Floor to ceiling might be a little exaggerated. The highest shelves I could find go 70" and my ceiling is 94ish. I have one shelf left on the wall. I can squeeze one more shelf in but then I couldn't open my closet door so I'd probably have to convert the door to a bi-fold. I can't imagine storing 8000 titles. I'd love to see what your setup looks like or at least the shelves you are using. I could always go custom shelfing and going true floor to ceiling but I'm dreading that day since carpetentry just isn't a skill I possess. Here's a pic of my shelves from awhile back. I've since changed the orientation of my movies from top to bottom instead of left to right and they are all filled but the last shelf: ![]() |

I've been tempted to buy that myself. If it were priced like a regular title I surely would have. I think they are doing us both a favor charging a little too much for it. With my current projector I use it's own Auto calibration program and then just hope for the best. Results are good and no one complains. I feel like I fully understand SDR calibration and for HDR I rely more on whatever the defaults are. |

dcx4610,
I appreciate your concern about space. My shelves are bursting and there's a stack of large bins beside them with things deemed less worthy. I just figure I'm going to have to make room because it doesn't look like new releases are slowing down. I want most of them. ![]() |

Personally, I would just hire someone with woodworking skills to build me something more efficient. Shop around as the prices can vary greatly, but the best part is that you get to pick the materials. Solid well-built shelves are a one time expense that will last a lifetime, so I think its worth the cost. Here is a company that makes media storage shelves out of solid oak that I have used, but they are not cheap. They do custom builds, too. https://hillwoodshed.com/ Good luck and don't despair. There are lots of great solutions for storing our libraries, but you will have to search for one that works for you and your budget. |

Yeah, I definitely have wasted space for height but they were the tallest and most narrow pre-built shelf I could find. The Ikea Billy's have a lot of wasted space with depth. The adjustable shelves would help with height but then you have uneven shelfing and potentially a full row where nothing will fit.
I guess custom shelves are really the way to go. I've looked and looked and no one really seems to offer floor to ceiling height media-specific shelving. Oh well - I have space for 250ish more movies and then can squeeze in one more shelf and then I'll have to start thinking of options. 250-500 movies sounds like a lot but at the rate stuff is coming out, that'll take a year or two at most. |

Custom built costs more, but you get a product that exactly meets your needs made out of the materials that you choose and a high quality product that will last a lifetime. It's well worth it in my opinion. |

Wendell, I seem to recall that you once bought the Tascam 4K disc player, but you had to return it due to it being defective. Did you ever try another one and, if so, what did you think of it? Or did you just return it for a refund? Or have I hallucinated the whole story?
I hardly ever hear of anyone discussing this model. |

Negatives for me: Nice front display but was too small to read from any distance. No discrete power on and power off IR codes. Does have discrete power codes when using RS-232. Positives: What one would expect of a device made for commercial use. One rack space height (1U or 1.75 inches) x 19". Rack mount adapters are removable. Two HDMI outputs, 1 video and audio, 1 audio only. At work we had several Tascam devices. Had a DA-88 in post audio, it was used in many studios and post houses. Had a Tascam (don't remember model) disk based multi-channel audio recorder on the mobile production trailer and it had problems maintaining time code sync lock. |

Personally in california you should get solar and hope by the time the net metering grand fathering ends the power problem drastically changes or that batteries are cheap enough to go off the grid to avoid the ridiculous connection fees. Under the last proposal they basically wanted to charge people like 1300 dollars a year just in connection fees if they had solar. |

This should be a good topic of discussion, because some of your Movie Libraries seem to be getting out of hand. I went to a friends house last night and to my surprise he had several shelves of his Movie Collection. To me putting the Movies on a Media Server is the best option!

I have hundreds of movies and TV shows I haven't watched, some of which I've had for years.
I've never felt the need to watch anything quickly. My collection is there so I always have a large selection of lots of different movies and TV shows that I can watch at any time with no fear that any of them will ever be modified or removed. |
