Default Snell and other lesser known brands

Are there any people out there that use Snell, Maggies, or other - less promoted speakers? I know we have one JM LABS user at least. Chime in folks!

I wish I had some maggies since most of those are catered to 2-channel, I doubt many do.... I'd like some apogee grands though..... and of course Thiel is still on the wish-list for my 2-channel setup..... (they have such rich bass..... I love them)

Saw a pair of Apogee grands finished in Gloss Black on Audiogon the other day! I think if you keep looking - you can have your Thiels before the end of this year - even if you've bought a new house! Thiels are always coming up on Audiogon!

The Grands are sold but they have a pair of mini-grands in walnut for $1600.00. Check this deal out - goes back to my other thread, but you would need a acoustically transparent screen to pull this one off! http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls....ull&1216572013

I have Quad....Famous for electrostats, regarded as the best speaker in the world, but I have their newer loudspeaker line called the L series. Beautiful crafted and even better sounding than they look, moderately priced as well. Check em out.http://www.quad-hifi.co.uk/ranges.ph...=2&range_id=11

Bad link (at least for me.)

I've heard of them, but have not heard them.

This is by no means a slam - far from it, but did you know that Quad has been out-sourced to China? It's actually a compliment and testament to Quad for keeping up the productionstandard, even in China, because these new Quads have received good reviews!

I did know that before I bought them. I have a really great dealer who is very honest. They are not completely made in China though, I think just the drivers, the rest "I believe" is assembled in England still.

More than you think. I know of at least a dozen people I've run into online with maggie HTs besides myself and one meatspace friend.

I started off with a pair of MMGs, and now have 1.6s in front with a pair of big dipole woofers to fill in their low end, MMG sides and MGMC1 rears, and a pair of large subs.

You gotta have some room for the fronts to make it work though, no tucking them into corners or between RPTVs and plants or anything. The MGMC1s are designed to work off a wall mount, but I actually think the MMGs are a better deal for surrounds if you have the space.

I have a pair of Magnepan MMG's. Not the best speaker they make, but excellent for the mains in a budget home theater system. Great for stereo listening with a sub woofer . Powered by the ONKYO TX-SR805. It is 4 ohm compatable. It was the choice for the Maggies because of that right there. Love the sound Maggies make, what they lack, and it really isn't much, is more than made up for with my Mirage sub. Most people run a sub in thier home system anyway. I let the maggies breathe and the mirage does the work, together they make wonderfull music.

I have listened to way too many speakers. I eventually bought my Von Schweikerts, and never looked back.

They're real, all right. They're the (long discontinued) Apogee Grands. As for your second question: you start with a very big house! :-)

They are in my theater, I am a glutton for punishment.

I actually know of 1 person who own Vandersteens. Like 8 years ago or so there was a Vandersteen dealer in my area, I listened to them quite a bit. They are a unique speaker, with their driver array, cabinet design, and of course crossover design.

I am/was a huge Vifa fan, and Vandersteen uses/used Vifa drivers. I liked the way they sounded, but they had very strict listening position limitations among a few other things that kept me from buying.
