From what I know all three new 4K, Ultra HD BD players, Samsung, Philips and Panasonic support 3D, where the confusion comes in is that none, not even Panasonic's DMP-UB9800 support UHD 3D. But they all support FHD 3D, which is normal 1080p BD with 3D that we've had since 2006.

Hope this helps.

It seems strange that dvd and 3D would be excluded. If so, I imagine it's nothing an update couldn't fix

There is no UHD 3D support because it wasnt even in the UHD blu-ray spec.

Blu-ray 3D is all you gonna get for now, if ever. Many of the current UHD displays drop down to 1080p for 3D anyways.

Many people doesn't understand why that's not use 3D on 4K UltraHD disc.

I would have liked to see frame packed 3-D technology included in the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray specs, but the BDA decided not to. Perhaps if several native 4K 3-D movies are created in the future and if 3-D in the home becomes more popular, then maybe in the future a new 4K 3-D Blu-ray format could come out in 2020 (that’s a big maybe).

For now consumers should be happy with the fact that all the first generation 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray players will play ones existing 1080P Blu-ray 3-D collection. 100% of the 4K flat panels on the market that use passive glasses offer 1080P quality for each eye when in the 3-D mode. An 8K flat panel would need to be developed to offer passive glasses 4K 3-D quality. Also 100% of the active glasses 4K flat panels on the market have no way of accepting a 4K 3-D signal since the existing HDMI specs do not accept 4K Ultra HD 3-D frame packed signals. Therefore when an active glasses 4K flat panel receives the 1080P MVC 3-D frame packed signal from a Blu-ray 3-D movie, the image is upscaled to simulated 4K quality.

All 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray players play 480i DVD's and all or most play ones existing Blu-ray 3-D collection.

I think like, 100 people total across all these forums. The same ones, too, lol.

I may be mistaken, but aren't 3D Bluray sales down? And have been trending down for some time? Isn't that why studios decided to stop supporting it?

(I'm saying that without having done a Google search, just what I remember reading here)

I like 3D, but having it or not is not a dealbreaker for me in 4K.

I like the IDEA of 3D and having it as an option. But if I'm really honest with myself I watch a movie in 3D at home MAYBE once a month, and that is being generous.

Totally with you there. I was excited when I first got it, but now the novelty has worn off. I used it the most when I had a projector, now that I own a 4K TV, it's not as fun.

Thanks gents, but I know that, which is why I posted my clarification of why or how some folks think only Panasonic's 4K UHD BD player supports 3D and the two others do not. They all have the same 3D support and it's strictly for the 1080p 3D BD, which is what we've been enjoying since 2006.

It seems that my post was not well written.

Why is this not available for pre-order? I wish all companies would release their player at the same time

Can't agree ^ more! Here's what we know so far:

1st - Samsung UBD-K8500, Scheduled to launch mid March '16

2nd - Philips BDP7501, Announced to begin shipping May '16

3rd - Panasonic DMP-UB9800, No official USA release date at this time

4th - Sony, LG and others, hopefully by end end of 2016

Can someone add any know dates for the announced Ultra HD BD titles?

-Robert

DVD and Blu-ray 3D support is not a mandatory feature and therefore some people feared that DVDs would not be playable on the new players. But of course Samsung and Panasonic included DVD playback. Blu-ray 2D playback is mandatory.

It was similar with Blu-ray Players: DVD Playback was mandatory, CD playback wasn't. But I've never seen a Blu-ray player which doesn't support Audio CDs.

According to the manual the Samsung UHD Player also supports Audio-CDs for the few people who still use them.

Samsung UBD-K8500- this needs to be lowered by at least $150 but better $200. Hope some Black Friday deals or early 2017 discounts once 2017 models announced. Price point is way too high for any kind of adoption beyond the people with money to burn. The selection of movies is atrocious too. Directtv has better 4K rentals- Braveheart/Gladiator. Give me those on UHD blu-ray and I'll be a heck a lot more enticed than Mazerunner ( thumbs down).

No Dolby Vision support is a disappointment when you consider the price of this player. That means it will be obsolete within the first year…

Yeah seems Philips is the only one using dolby vision chips so far Heard something about they are not really done yet so the first batch of players can't use it.
