I don't see any deception. I got it cheap in a Target sale and don't regret buying it at all. We could go round and round about poor quality for like 50% of the BDs in existence, but I don't think it's a big deal breaker when no other version exists on BD.

Best version in existence + unlikely to ever see a better version = screeching that you should boycott it and watch a substantially inferior DVD nonstop is crazy behavior.

If it was a case like Female Prisoner Scorpion or The Whip and the Body where a blu-ray is so messed up that it's ACTUALLY worse than the DVD, or like Ran where it seems to be an actual upscale, this kind of reaction seems acceptable. But here, it's just...this is a bad, dated transfer, like many others on the format, and you should know what you're getting into, but there's no better option on the horizon and it's certainly not worse than the vast majority of discs that were produced before 2010 (and many of which have no upgrades).

It is not worse than the DVD, it is an upscaled DVD with a bunch of subs and dubs to take the space of the bluray with no extras at all to warrant the purchase just like what the DVD offered: barebone release.

I stated my opinion you do you, the screenshots don't lie and when you see it in motion it's even worse ...peace

Its 100% "watchable." Saying it's not means it literally can't be watched.

Is it great? No. Is it reference quality? No. Is it an ancient master? Yes.

Can you watch the film and still see detail and what's happening and follow the story? Yes. Is it better than the DVD? Yes. Therefore, it's watchable.

You touting that it's "unwatchable" is just as bad as what you claim, leading people one way or another the is false.

It's also not an upscale, which is another piece of misinformation you keep posting.

Bruce Broughton's epic score (performed by the 85-piece Sinfonia of London) is one of the finest of the 1980s, IMO.

How about we all send an email to Paramount and we tell them no thank you to the blu-ray and to hurry up that 4K blu-ray and to actually re-scan the movie not just "upgrade" the Amazon prime rip to 4K blu-ray.

So I’ll interrupt this straw man festival to say that the reason the SB is going OOPis because a standard case is most likely in the works with the same disc. My guess is for 2025 someone will redo the film in 4K, and there will be a remastered Blu-ray and possibly a native 4K Blu-ray as well. Paramount is playing the double dip game again.

For anyone who wants the original artwork in an amaray case, the UK edition has it:

as do all of the other countries which released the disc.

Not crazy about the new cover but it's the disc that counts.
