Default World At War OAR Oct 10, 2016 Release

For those who don't regularly hit the UK section. Not so much of a deal yet as really FYI, but at least it's on the radar for the holidays (2016 or 2017)

NetworkOnAir is releasing the original restored OAR BD version in October -- current price is 58 directly (about $72 shipped to US at today's exchange rate after VAT removal) or 85 ($100 shipped) at AmazonUk. I'll assume by release a real pre-order price will show up though it's very unusual for Amazon to sell for less than (or close to) Network direct price.

World at War The Complete Series (Original Restored Version)

Networks releases are very often Region B locked and TV series routinely 1080i/50 to match the original production values. It's also been very hit/miss whether they find a US distributor.

"A televisual milestone and the benchmark for all war documentaries that followed, The World at War presents the story of World War Two – from its beginnings in Hitler's pre-war Germany to its horrific climax at Hiroshima. Made with the full co-operation of the Imperial War Museum and narrated by Laurence Olivier, this powerful twenty-six part series combines eyewitness testimony with rare archive footage to tell the unforgettable story of the greatest conflict the world has ever known.

A brand-new High Definition restoration, this is The World at War as it is meant to be seen – in its original fullscreen format with the maximum picture area from the original film materials now visible onscreen.

SPECIAL FEATURES:
[] All eight supplementary documentaries made by the World at War production team
[] "Making of" documentaries
[] Experiences of War: unseen and extended interviews
[] Dolby 5.1 mix (as well as original Mono audio)
[] Image Gallery"

Amazon UK 85 -- their page still seems to be in development since they haven't decided if it's DVD or Bluray.

I still have the unopened DVD set. I've been thinking more about this new release, and it may finally be time to upgrade. Yesterday I was thinking back to the glory days of the 25% DDD sales.

This is very interesting news!

I almost bought this several months ago on bluray because of the series legacy.

The reason I did not buy it was the controversy over the decision to reformat the previous VHS & DVD 4:3 image of the entire series into a 16:9 HD bluray image.
Which meant cutting off the bottoms and tops of the images in most cases.

Ouch!

Now the producers have decided to appease the haters by restoring the 4:3 image in HD with the black bars on the sides.

I have never heard of such an undertaking to appease a fan base because of the crapstorm the producers created with their first attempt.

But the hate isn't over... Read that comment at the bottom of this page

WOW!

I see they already recently yanked the original off of Amazon Prime Video while I was in the middle of watching it for the first time.

Thank you so much. Will be ordering this come the new year.
I will never understand why they did not put out both versions.
