It's a callback to when Suzy Bannion was smiling as she walked away from the Tanz Academy at the end of Suspiria. If you can accept a big smile, laughter shouldn't seem too out of place either.

Edit: I should also mention that it was actually detective Enzo who was laughing with Sarah Mandy.

I watched this the other day, and I think it's quite good fun if a bit 'amateur dramatics' in places.

It's also quite mean-spirited and misogynistic in a couple of places, with the women being killed in some really quite horrific fashion (the double murder near the end is particularly vicious and uses unnecessary sexual violence when compared to, say, the opening of Suspiria).

I do like Asia in it though, and Udo Kier is great, as always, but sadly underused. I don't like the shower scene, as all I can think of is "that's her dad filming that." Eww.

I do like the Mater's tits, though. So there is that.

I went to a screening and the
[Show spoiler] 'strangled by your own intestines' moment actually provoked audible gasps from the audience. btw That audience was roughly 60% male and 40% female. Also (on a home viewing) a friend's wife claimed to be highly offended by the moment where the lesbian white witch has a spear thrust through her. Apparently she told him how much that scene had upset her - they divorced a short while later! Luckily my wife doesn't feel the same way about such scenes.

I actually thought that a German re-release had since come out. Perhaps I'm mistaken.

Edit: Just had a look to check and a reissue isn't available.

So while the film came off as a little too "real" and unstylised, I appreciate the film for having quite a bit of social ressonance ten years on.
Interesting...i liked the "end of the world" feel of the movie.
Uneven movie, a bit rushed but still with some good things in it, 20 first minutes are pretty good also the scene at the station, crazy Udo Kier, Valeria Cavalli and the long beautiful Steadycam shot before the climax.

I was looking at completing my Argento on Blu collection recently and the OOP prices put me off, need Sleepless as well, as the cheap German Blu is the cut version...

Scorpion have this for the US and as there's nothing else forthcoming from other regions, it'll be the only show in town. Hopefully the Italian track will be included as the movie plays far better with it - we lose Von Sydow's voice but it's worth it, as we also lose some of the worst English dubbing I think I've encountered!

There's a new copy on Amazon UK right now, but it's £52.99.

Good to know, I have in my notes that they have The Card Player as well. Might be a long wait though

I'm more surprised by the lack of interest of UK labels in Argento's later output.

I think UK labels are aware of newer Argento films but don't think their a worthwhile investment. The rights for these films are still expensive, there's no HD masters available, the rights only allow the English dub, the films don't have the best of reputations.

The major issue with Argento's Hitchcock and Card Player are the dreadful American accented dubs. Card Player would be much much better if the Italian Police Force didn't all have American accents it completely pulls you out of the film.

Do you (or anyone else) know if it's B locked? I don't want to pony up if my player won't play.

But HD masters are available for almost every single newer Argento film (only Do You Like Hitchcock doesn't have one). Take a look at my blu-ray collection to see proof of that (the Argento bds are listed first in their own category).
