Default Will/Should Onimusha ever come to the PS4?

Was thinking about this the other day. I wonder why Onimusha never made an appearance on the Playstation 3? It's such a fun game (albeit kinda hard, at least for me) in some places, but I'm kind of surprised it never got a PS3 installment, or at least an HD Collection or something.

Anyone remember these? What do you think the chances of this making an appearance next gen are?

Onimusha was my first PS2 game, loved it to death. Sequels were cool, but I still the first one the most.
No idea if it'll be on PS4, but y'never know

It seems that HD collections are all the rage these days, with Capcomís own Devil May Cry HD Collection currently on sale during the PlayStation All-Stars Heritage Sale on the PlayStation Network.
One PS2 series that hasnít received the HD treatment from Capcom is Onimusha, with someone on the Capcom forums asking to see a compilation of Onimusha: Warlords, Onimusha 2: Samuraiís Destiny, Onimusha 3: Demon Siege, Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams, and Onimusha: Blade Warriors. Responding to this inquiry was Greg Moore, Community Liaison for Capcom Unity:
Still nothing like this planned, kimbap. You may not realize, but these HD remakes are actually an enormous and costly undertaking, and redoing all five games you listed would be an extraordinary feat. I do believe there are also licensing issues as others have pointed out, and I doubt itís as simple as just shooting out emails to Mr. Reno and Mr. Kaneshiro. It would probably add significant cost to the projects, and I would guess that someone, somewhere in the organization has already assessed this idea from a risk-return viewpoint and deemed it too risky without enough potential return. Remember, Metacritic scores donít necessarily speak to potential sales.
That said, we never say never around here.

I couldn't care less if the series stayed dormant. Boring protagonists, tedious reactive combat, flaky camera angles. It's not a terrible series, but it's distinctly Japanese, and not in a good way.

Devil May Cry has it beat pretty much across the board.

EXACTLY. I mean it's not like they could possibly find a way to improve on those things, so why bother. Just chuck it and make another Street Fighter game.

A series reboot might work, but honestly the setting isn't compelling. It's a Sengoku-era fantasy game from Japan. How many people outside of Japan are even aware of the Sengoku period? I remember playing the first one and having to research Nobunaga Oda because the game more or less assumes you know who he is and why he's important.

At some point you just have to recognize that a complete reboot is less viable than completely new IP, and I think this is one of those cases. If they tried to "fix" some of the issues that have plagued the series, there'd be pushback from long time fans, which wouldn't happen with new IP.

Well I didn't have a problem with the series personally, and a lot of other people that I've seen practically beg for a ps3 version or at least HD collection don't either. Not everyone is gonna like the same games though so...I dunno.

Hope they do SOMETHING though.
