No doubt. Amazon.de exclusives are usually very pricy indeed. I recall the Taxi Driver Amazon.de exclusive Blu-ray was priced $10 more than the U.S. Blu-ray of Taxi Driver.

This is awesome!
Looks like a 10 disc set(9 BD and 1 DVD). All 24 episodes. Koch Media is releasing this. 70 euros is not much for this exclusive release. Going to order this now!

The Amazon listing includes several photos from the spin-off sequel Galactica 1980. Maybe, just maybe 9 BDs is enough to include all 10 episodes of that. Yes, I know nine of them aren't great!

That would be the best one! A photo from it (Cylon in Starbuck's arms) is included on Amazon.de.

I doubt the series has had any CG tinkering but the movie BD released in May looked fantastic so if the rest of the series is of the same quality I will be very happy.

It's called 'The Complete Series' so should contain all 24 episodes but 9 discs seems like overkill (unless they are BD-25s) so perhaps it will also include Galactica 1980.

This is the last thing any true fan of this series would want. The effects were done by John Dykstra of Star Wars, and the series was the most expensive show ever produced for television up to that point, at $1 million per episode. I think the effects look pretty amazing for the time period and keeping in mind it was produced for television. Sure, some effects are rough. What do you expect from a show made in 1978?

I have the US blu-ray of the original 1978 theatrical film that was released a few months back, and it look phenomenal on blu-ray. A nice layer of grain and the effects and miniatures look great. If the whole series looks that good, then I'll be thrilled. The last thing we need is for all our favorite tv shows to be tinkered with. Leave it alone.

From what I understand it includes the entire 10-episode series of Galactica 1980 as well as the original series, all in 1080p and lossless English audio.

This is my concern as well. For instance, this set:

http://www.amazon.de/Gerry-Andersons-SPACE-Folgen-Blu-rays/dp/B008V1IR78/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1386122829&sr=8-1&keywords=space%3A1999+blu-ray

is just SD video, and this set:

http://www.amazon.de/Gerry-Andersons-SPACE-Special-Edition/dp/B009YF6KX8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1386122829&sr=8-2&keywords=space%3A1999+blu-ray

is crappy, converted junk.

Still, the inclusion of lossless audio is a good sigh that it is indeed true HD and not just upconverted. It's definitely not SD because you wouldn't need 9 blu-rays for SD video.

One worry - it is listed as region B. Hopefully that's incorrect. I know the DVD is PAL but that's not a deal-breaker for me.

EDIT: Well I placed the order. I'm pretty sure it will be region B. Hopefully we'll hear more about this in the next couple days so I can cancel my order if we hear anything negative about it.

And the set is on sale at Amazon right now
- it's listed as 69.99 euros but at checkout it's reduced to 58.82 euros + 4.20 euros for US shipping, totaling $88.61 USD.

This is just because non-European customers don't pay value-added tax (which is included in the listed price).

Ah, I see. Thanks for that info. Still, it was nice to see the price drop a bit lower than I was prepared for.

Certainly looks that way as they list Kent McCord and Barry Van Dyke who were only in Galactica 1980.

If this set turns out to be upscales though it will be going back.

The Space 1999 blu-rays released in Germany was released by Crest Movies. That's a crappy company well known for releasing upscales.
The Battlestar Galactica series on blu-ray is released by Koch Media, and they are well known for releasing quality blu-rays. I think this will look much better, but can't be 100% sure of anything yet.

I'm hoping this is true. Like you said, it seems that Koch puts out pretty good releases. I will be very upset is this turns out to be upscales. I'm surprised this just popped up like it did, and with it coming out in just a couple days I would think there should be some German review for the set somewhere, but I couldn't find anything under "Kampfstern Galactica". Also, Amazon has it spelled wrong on their listing - they list it as "Kampfstern Galactia".

Does anybody know where these new masters came from? I imagine they must have been sourced from Universal, wouldn't they? They couldn't be the same masters used for the ancient DVDs could they? Those were rather dirty prints. I'm surprised there are no screenshots showing up anywhere this close to release. And can we expect 23.976 for a framerate for the blu-rays? The PAL DVD will likely be 25.000 but I really hope the blu-rays aren't 25.000 also.
