In addition to what The Mole's has already told:

The whole thing backfired on Crackle when capsaholic released a comparison of his Blu-ray against the HDTV rip from MGM HD. Then he ran out of arguments and invented the most hilarious excuses already mentioned by Mole (720p HDD master).

Haha, yeah. He was so desperate he even seriously claimed his BD to look better than the HDTV version.
And of course he still tried to fool people by telling them there was no better source material available anywhere and that 35mm prints for the movie no longer existed and much other nonsense.
But when another comparison showed, that even the MGM DVD looked much better than his BD, Krekel really ended up on sh*t creek without a paddle. It became clear he even was too cheap to spend 10 $ for importing a decent DVD and do a rip off of that, but instead preferred using his already messed-up bootleg NTSC-PAL-conversion.

I was always wondering how such a deal works when somebody acquires the rights to a movie.
If somebody acquires the rights, doesn't that person get access to the print/master as well? Or do they charge extra for that? Anyway, for those interested here's Leviathan's German release history:

1990: 20th Century Fox (Theatrical)
1990: Marketing (VHS)
1995: Astro (Laserdisc)
2006: Bootleg DVD
2008: CMV (DVD)
2010: UIG (DVD)
2010: '84 Entertainment (DVD)
2012: VZ (DVD & Blu-ray)
2013: '84 Entertainment (Blu-ray)

Those were all done by Krekel. The DVDs are all 100% identical. Only the distributors changed. Same goes for the BD releases. And like I said: Krekel's source for his DVD was the bootleg.

So the bottom line is...I'm better off to get a DVD copy, rather than the Blu-ray?

At least don't buy the German Blu-ray but wait for the US release by Olive Films. They are remastering MOONTRAP on their own and the image quality will top the Krekel-crap easily.

Anyone know what transfer 88 Films are using for their upcoming UK release early next year?

Presumably the same transfer as Olive Films in the US, which should be entirely different than the "Krekel-ized" DNR'ed release from Germany.

Unfortunately I cannot find the link to MOONTRAP on caps-a-holic. Is there another site that has the screen cap comparisons?

Wow the Olive Films caps make it look like it was shot on a VHS camera in the theatre itself.

It doesn't look like the German BD. It has kind of artifical grain/noise.

Can someone who owns the German 2 disc set please let me know if there's anything special in the 2 bonus cuts/versions o nthe 2nd disc (DVD), like alternate scenes/footage, ... ?
What exactly are these cuts?

I ask this because a single disc release of Moontrap is now available, significantly cheaper, but drops the DVD.
I was just wondering if there's anything of interest in the bonus dvd.

thanks

They are just old cut versions (German theatrical and US TV version) ripped from VHS tapes. Nothing to spend any money on.

Thanks for the reply. Do any of the versions include alternate footage by any chance? Some TV versions (Hallowee, Re-Animator, ...) have alternate footage, I'm wondering if it's the same thing here.

Oliver Krekel's Blu-rays are a joke, the worst on the market.
This ruins everything.
Grain is part of a film, DNR is wrong!
We live in the year 2016 where grain is left, only old restorations are DNRd to hell.
