Got mine last week. Yes, the packaging is completely over the top, but this is a quality release of a fine giallo; very impressed by the picture quality.

The transfer is really good. There are some blemishes/imperfections but it looks absolutely great otherwise. Here are some screen caps I took.

Please tell me, are the German subtitles forced on the English track or not?

Thanks

Yep, as soon as somebody who has the set answer's this very important question, I'll buy it. Or not.

this first picture is quite ironic as person on facebook said not removable

here's what he said exactly
Don't Torture a Duckling unboxed. Here's a confirmation that the subs are not removable one the english & italian audio tracks but it's really not a big deal cos' they are small and white (check on the pic...) The picture quality is just perfect and the 1.0 is clear and strong. This is def a "must have".

someone then asked
Are they forced on digital subs, or burned into the print? Players like the Oppo let you turn off digital subs no matter what rule the manufacturers encoded.
he replied
I really don't have a clue, sorry for that! I will have to check that, Thanks for this, I will let you know...

I am able to rip the movie with MakeMKV and was able to strip out the forced german subtitles. The screenshots I took above were playing the English audio.

I had to grab this and did so primarily for the collector's aspect of it. Not too fussed about the non-English friendliness or the fact that it's not properly restored - this is a showpiece. I'm trashing my Blue Underground packaging and sticking the DVD in one of the slots. Great set.

As the film takes place in a small village in Italy, not having the option to watch the film in Italian with English subs is the second reason I'm not buying this. The aforementioned forced German subs being the other.

It's a nice package, but once it's on the shelf, you're not going to see it.

Ok. over my morning coffee, in a fit of madness, I just ordered this. I should have it by Friday.

I know that there'll be an English friendly release down the line, but I couldn't wait. Those screenshots absolutely trash the dvds.

It's a Christmas present to myself and amongst my favourite Fulci's. That's how I'm justifying it

Haha yeah it is a really great transfer. Very impressive. I was honestly worried about it since their The Psychic transfer wasn't great. Like I said, I used MakeMKV and was able to strip out the forced subtitles and have an amazing lossless video file of the movie on my Plex server. I am very happy with it.

Unfortunately, I'm not equipped to rip BDs etc. Still, I don't regret my purchase in any way.

Tracking my package, I see that it will be waiting for me when I get home from work on Friday...and I'll be on my Christmas holidays
