I don't have the details on why (probably a combination of lack of time and money), but it was supposed to be mix in Dolby Atmos.

One of the two re-recording mixers told me that there's no known plan to do a re-mix in Atmos or DTS-X for the (Ultra HD) Blu-ray release.

It's not laziness, it's money. Maybe they will change their mind.

if Paramount can DTS-X 'Daddy's Home' there's no reason why 'Arrival' couldn't be the same.

Paramount is the distributor. Money-wise, it's not really an American "studio" movie.

If anyone wants to watch this film now, just rent Epoch. It's pretty much the same story.

Have you seen any 4K UHD releases of a major feature film that didn't have a normal Blu-ray release?

Why? The movie didn't have Atmos theatrically, why do you need a pointless remix???

If they wanted to use Atmos, they would have release it that way...

Remixes aren't pointless except to purists. Dracula and The Fifth Element never sounded better with their remixes, just to name a couple off the top of my head.

Maybe not pointless but unnecessary for sure... Especially for a brand new movie

Default 15% Cartwheel

One of my faves for 2016, and why not, as the film is a well-directed, credible sci-fi.

Target is offering a CyberMonday 15% discount for the 4K price of $32.99; combined with Red(Card) that's 20% and a pre-order worth pre-ordering.

Where are you located? If they are releasing it with Atmos, I'll buy it from there.

Yup, if it's good and Sony puts out a different master with a remixed Atmos track and it isn't a universal port for worldwide distribution, I'll buy the Sony version.

To spread the financial costs. It was a riskier film since it doesn't spoon feed you like a lot of safe Hollywood fare these days.
