Arrow Yooka-Laylee

Playtonic Games, developer of the upcoming throwback 3-D platformer Yooka-Laylee, announced today that the development of the game for the Wii U has been canceled. However...

We can however confirm the exciting news that we are now working very closely with Nintendo to look to bring Yooka-Laylee to the upcoming Nintendo Switch. We’re looking forward to exploring the opportunity and will have more details to share early next year.
I would greatly consider buying this game on the Switch instead of the PS4 if the port isn't delayed too long. It seems like the perfect game for the console.

I guess it's better than to 'force' the game to run on every freaking system and be poorly optimised like Mighty no 9

poor backers, though

The game looks goofy, based solely on the pictures on the website.

they just went from a nice company led by past rare game devs trying to make a game for the fans to money grubbing company. sorry that's just how i feel. wii u owners funded a large portion of this game.

Not a problem.

We’d like to apologise to those affected by this development and offer all Wii U backers the opportunity to move their pledge free-of-charge to any of the versions launching on April 11th (PS4, Xbox One, PC, Mac or Linux) or upgrade to the Nintendo Switch version when we announce further details in 2017.
And also

I chose Wii U as my platform. Can I get a refund?

All affected Wii U backers can choose another platform to receive a digital copy of Yooka-Laylee for, at no extra cost to their existing pledge (already at more than 50% discount to retail). Wii U backers can also choose to wait for updates on the Nintendo Switch early next year.

However, if you would like to discuss a refund please contact us via the Backer messaging system for Kickstarter.

(or if you are without a Kickstarter account then via Kickstarter@Playtonicgames.com)

Now that we know the switch release date hopefully we hear something about this making the games launch or soon after. Want to get this for the Switch but don't want to wait months.

I'll tell ya what, if the Switch versions turns out to be more than $39.99 I'm gonna be pretty annoyed.

I'm hoping they'll fix the apparent camera issues. Maybe the Switch will get a more polished version with all this extra time.

Update: According to Playtonic, the December 14 release will be digital only to "get it into hands as soon as possible" with a physical release happening at a later time (most likely early 2018).

Ah, thanks for the info. I'll hold out for physical.

They did an AMA on reddit yesterday:

Quote:
There are no plans right now or likely to be in motion for the near future (and these things take months if they go ahead), but we’d like to look into it in the future if demand is there. The priority until now has been getting the game polished and into your hands ASAP before Christmas and digital allowed us to do that.

Well they certainly changed their tune. Originally they said physical would follow at a later date, now they are saying this. They keep flip-flopping.

It's $50 CDN digitally so I'll wait for a digital version. Plenty to play in the meantime.
