Yes, the UK DVD looked good for a DVD.

Harmon's short China Lake would be a nice extra to have, it's on the old UK DVD. Great little flick.

Wouldn't surprise me either, because another HBO produced theatrical film from that same time, VOLUNTEERS, just showed up on Blu in Germany also. It's nice to have but it looks to be from an older print, certainly not any kind of new master from the vaults.

Yet, I'll still buy it, as it beats the alternative and HBO has shown little to no willingness to license catalog titles out. Unless it's THREE AMIGOS they dont seem to care much.

We’ll see.
If there’s lossloss audio and it’s an old master, but it looks good in HD what can be the problem?

HBO/Studio Canal dont have the rights to it anymore. They lost them along with The Changeling.

Today it was announced by an user in a german movie forum, that the german label Filmjuwelen will release the movie too in 2019.
And it will probably be a keep case (with a slipcase).

I’m region free, but if this is an official release with a deal through the rights holders, I can imagine a R1 release is in the works by somebody. If the quality of this release is iffy, maybe worth holding out hope for either a UK or NA release.

HBO actually produced The Hitcher, as they did Volunteers, Three Amigos and a number of other films in the 1980s. Changeling was just a movie they distributed on home video for a set amount of time -- it's a totally different situation.

I don't know if Studio Canal does or doesn't still own international rights to The Hitcher, but The Hitcher is always going to be an HBO film outside of areas where local distributors have foreign rights.

I wonder if Arrow plan to try to pick up the rights to it, considering they recently released a book on it? The 'All the Colors of Sergio Martino' book is a good companion to all the Martino films they have released, perhaps The Hitcher book was a pre-cursor to them planning a blu ray release?

I'll be interested in that (not a fan of mediabooks).

I'm down for that one as well. It's the one most reminiscent of the DVD release I own of this.

In fact, I might just have to convert the above for use with a conventional Blu-ray case.
