UK release please. I need that fat collector's packaging to go along with the dodgy encoding of Studio Canal.

Should think a UK release is also incoming, they hold the rights over here as well right?

Probably the best horror film of the 1970s. However, if this looks anything like the old, DNR-laden UK BD, you'd be better off with the Criterion BD.

Oh nice, might import this to go along with the Criterion.

As much as I complain about SC's encoding, their remastering of titles for the UHD format has been exquisite.

They sure do. I'd love an UHD of "The Graduate".

This recently got a new 4k restoration. I figured a regular Blu was coming but not a 4k, good surprise!

(Hi Geoff- sorry for cheeky message just wondering of you received your German 4K of '187' and are planning a review? Thinking of picking it up myself if PQ is any good!)

Aargggh, I just ordered the Criterion from the US last week. Massive Donald Sutherland fan but for some reason this one always eluded me.

Anyway, on Caps-a-holic the Criterion looked better framed and more detailed as opposed to the Canal+ blu-ray put out in the UK. Curious to see how this 4K transfer will look.

I had the exact same thought earlier, that although their encoding is quite spectacularly awful the actual source remasters are just beautiful. No DNR weirdness, no extra sharpening, very diligent dirt & damage clean-up, and when it comes to HDR they utilise it very respectfully indeed. Factor those new (and pretty darned good) bonus features and superb tat-laden sets into the mix and they're doing so many things right (various snafus on Le Fog aside e.g. botched HDR10 grading, no OG mono and squeaky pitched up tone) it's almost too good to be true - alas, when it comes to the compression it IS too good to be true.

It's not like we're moaning about small things when it comes to their 4K authoring either, like just a few tiny little niggles, but several of their 4K discs have the worst compression I've seen on a professionally-encoded product in years. Sod perfection, if they could just get the compression sorted out to a level of so-so mediocrity then I'd take that. It's what Criterion have been getting away with for years, after all...

Sweet! It looks like one of those extra THICK digipaks:

I love that cover by the way.

Maybe I'm just lucky with the Studio Canal UHD titles I own so far (The Deer Hunter and They Live are the only ones, I believe), but I don't notice any big compression issues. And even when I zoom in 400% on caps on caps-a-holic.com, I don't see nowhere near as many compression blocks as I do on releases from the king of poor compression - Criterion.

Speaking of that, there is no way in hell this UHD release is going to look nowhere near as astronomically shyte as this:

Finally! I hope it looks a lot better than the UK BD with the weird filter on it.
