Default Sony 65" A95K or LG G2?

Time for a new TV. Budget is $3,000. Max TV size is 65". Room will have some sunlight and ambient light, but not dark. My signature provides what equipment I have. TV will be used for HD TV shows/movies and blu-ray. For this purpose, I see that they are very close in what I want in just about every category for performance...but the price point of the LG seems to be a tie breaker, as you get a very comparable quality TV for quite a bit less money. It just seems for the additional money for the A95K (and it is quite a large difference), you hit the point of diminishing returns. Please convince me otherwise or do you agree with me?

In my opinion, you should compare the Sony A95K to the LG G2, and the C2 to the A80K.

Those are more equivalent models from each respective brand. And they're all very fine TVs, can't really go wrong whatever you pick.

Speaking of TVs, I'm saving up for the Sony A80K OLED after upgrading my home theater speakers. I rather spend $1,300 at Best Buy for the 55" TV A80K than spend $2,500 for A95K 55". I can't justify spending an additional $1,200 for a slight upgrade for the same size, same brand TV.

If you want a superb TV, either.

The A95K has a lot to recommend it though if you've got that extra money free to spend, and has various things which make it better than the G2 for HDR movies/streaming. (Colour volume, ASBL/TPC all but solved, incredible tone mapping, fantastic processing.)

If you've more than one modern game console, and use both DV and 4k/120 regularly the A95K starts to get awkward due to only 2 HDMI2.1 slots and one is used up by eARC, and that Sony won't allow both DV and 120hz enabled on the same input. So in terms of gaming, the G2 beats the Sony because you've got 4 HDMI 2.1 slots without this limitation.

For pure aesthetics, the G2 is a sexier design. The A95K is a bulky beast (at least by OLED standards) because of the heatsink that improves the TV. If you're wall-mounting the G2 does look the best with it's flush to wall design.

Looking at your budget and your equipment in your sig, another thought crosses my mind. The fact is, many of the A95Ks benefits over the G2 won't be visible to you if you're not watching actual 4K content - the G2 too for that matter, you'll only be using a fraction of what it can actually do so why even buy a G2 over a C2? Are you not better using your money for the 65" G2 plus a decent 4K UHD player? I know I rave about how great the A95K is, but the G2 is no slouch and you appear to be in need of a 4K disc player. Unless you've budgeted separately for one of those.

You do make a good point oddbox. I did not think of a 4K disc player.....but if you get the bells and whistles with the G2, you might as well "ring" them. I may just go with the G2 and use the extra money for the 4K player. I am moving into a new home and my equipment has been in storage for a few years (long story) so a few people may say some of my equipment could be considered "vintage", LOL. Therefore, I may need one anyway. Thanks for your input.

A few things for the A95K.
1.If you are a heavy gamer, it does dim in many SDR games by around 10% and a little in some HDR games by about 5%.
2. It does also auto dim a little on broadcast SDR sports after a certain amount of time, but it's not very noticable. 5% or so. Not always, but it will on something with a large amount of continuous white.
3. This TV has one of the better anti glare screens available, it does a much better job at managing glare than the LG. So in daylight with reflections I would most certainly choose this TV.
4. The TV can be currently purchased for $2500 at the 65in and around $1900 for the 55in, no tax. Check Greentoe, that's where I bought mine.
5. This TV is the best you can possibly buy for picture bar none.
6. LG G2 at the 65 in size has an issue with uniformity and will have one side of the screen pushing magenta. I would stay away from that size on the LG.

I debated this a while myself. And settled on the A95K. Can't wait for it to arrive tomorrow.

LG is better for gaming and mixed content.
But if you want the best picture quality for movies, then Sony and maybe Panasonic is better.
Avoid Samsung like the plague.

If you want to save a bit more $ then the 55" A80J for under a grand could be the best value at Best Buy.

I'd suggest Sony's 55A90J Master Series OLED TV with the heat sync, upgraded audio and Sony's full Q/C and calibration for $1,399 all in and delivered to your home.

Hey Robert - that's prob a great option but he's looking at a 65" TV, not 55"

I recently purchased the A95K, and I’m loving it. The display is truly amazing and a huge improvement over my last 4K Samsung set.

If you can afford the A95K, I fully recommend it.

is the 77 better or worse?

I was debating between the A90J or G2, but this thread is making me look at the A95K
