Some say they lost their direction with the Black/Self-titled album. I thought they'd be a top-five metal group...Then grunge came along...
![]() A band like Metallica that makes a song/video like this, well, they deserve respect. |

I saw 2 of my favorite bands together on one bill back in 1992...Metallica and Guns 'n Roses. It was at Mile High Stadium in Denver, CO. I had just joined the Air Force and had never been to a concert before. What a first concert that was.
Both bands played for 3 hours. Metallica opened and completely killed it. The whole crowd was on their feet for the entire 3 hours as they blistered through all the classics (Black album and before). This was a young Metallica and they were in their prime. No band could touch them live. Guns 'n Roses were good, but nowhere near the intensity of Metallica. Axl walked off stage during 2 of the songs...so Duff sang for those. Still cool to see GnR in their prime as well. This was a show I will never forget. What i would have given to see them in the early 90s. I was still in middle school at the time. Seen em three times and plan to see em if/when they come around on the Hardwired tour. The first time i saw em was on the St.Anger tour, then two more times on the Death Magnetic tour. All awesome shows, but i don't think they compare to how they sounded back then.
Pre-ordered this on Amazon. Really digging the new songs. |

Had the privilege to listen to the 2 disc standard edition of this album just before, this is a solid offering for sure after the first listen. Do not hesitate next weekend to pick this album up, especially at the very affordable $9.99 price for the triple CD (as of this typing...) Seen Metallica live in 1991 in Uniondale, NY and July 92 at Giants Stadium with GNR...
Oh, pickup that Back to the Front book that chronicles the Master of Puppets era, it is worth every penny! http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/meta...=9781608877461 Last edited by malja316; 11-13-2016 at 04:28 AM. |

By the way, I saw GNR twice and they sucked both times and it was all on Axl. They were my third favorite band of that time behind Metallica and the Crue, but Axl was horrible live and a complete a s s. ![]() |

I've went full circle on Metallica. Loved them growing up in the 80's. I was 12 when I bought Master of Puppets. Hated them through most of the 90's and early 00's. Production aside, loved Death Magnetic. And the 3 songs that have been released from the new album are fantastic. 9.99 for the 3 CD deluxe from Amazon for me is such a great deal.

Hope the new release is good. I enjoyed Death Magnetic so here's hoping it's great. Any exclusives?
First saw Metallica on the Monsters of Rock tour in 1987 before And Justice For All hit then saw them twice more on that tour (with Queensryche and then the Cult) and twice more on the Black album (with GnR and by themselves). Unfortunately, I never saw them live again since then due to the fact I moved to a smaller town when before I lived in Houston and the show would be 15 minutes or so away. They're still very good but they were really a beast back then. |

I have a good feeling that this will have more replay value than "Death Magnetic" due to it being a double album.
While yes, it is on the long side, I feel like them just going all double album is a much better direction than another single disc 70 minute+ album. |

although St. Anger left me a bit disappointed (whoever thought no solos was a good idea should be shot), Metallica has always been a band i can go to for solid stuff. Death Magnetic really grew on me and the new stuff sounds great!
and that Ronnie Rising Medley is a standout on the RJD Tribute Album |

I didn't see it mentioned, but for those that order from Amazon, it comes with AutoRip. So even though you probably won't get the actual CD until sometime Friday, you should be able to listen to the MP3 version around 10 PM Central on Thursday evening.

I think my issue with Metallica nowadays is, I don't find them interesting anymore. Death Magnetic was pretty good, solid I would say. This to me sounds like much the same. It's not bad. But there aren't really any surprises and nothing that makes me go "wow." It just feels like a safe album. I guess that's the drawback when you have this much longevity. After a while you just run out of ideas.

I had the opportunity to hear Halo on Fire, Dream No More, and Spit Out the Bone, Confusion. This is really starting to sound like a solid album. Doesn't sound like their other albums. Some nice time changes in some of these songs and the melody and dynamics so far feel superior to their last album DM. Heard some moments from manUnkind and Here comes revenge. This does not sound like a safe album. Last edited by tama; 11-14-2016 at 11:20 PM. |
