Yes, the best I am able to determine that is correct. That would apply to both the 8 and 9 series. What's different is that Sharpness 1-10 adds anti-aliasing incrementally with each step toward 10 on the 8 series, but not on the 9 series. So on the 9 series all sharpness settings between 0 and 10 seem to be identical to the Sharpness 0 setting on the 8 series. EE ringing starts at Sharpness 11 on both. It's possible this was a firmware change rather than a series difference.

I also tried turning on Smooth Gradation and Super Resolution with Sharpness 10 to see if those triggered the anti-aliasing/edge smoothing, and they did not.

Default HDR10+ Firmware Update Coming?

Hello all. I have an LG OLED65E6P from 2016. At the time I bought it, it came with HDR10 built in, plus the hardware for Dolby Vision (which now I don't remember if it was truly functional at the time or not, or if it was enabled by a subsequent Firmware Update like my Oppo 203 was). Either way, LG was saying that they were going to add HLG support via a FW Update, and I believe that they *have* done that, although I have no way to actually tell yet.

NOW, what I REALLY want to know is: WHAT ABOUT HDR10+? Is THAT coming to our sets also? It sounds like all it would take is another FW Update. Has anyone heard anything about that? There's ZERO chance of me "upgrading" my TV because none of the new OLED sets support 3D. (Gotta have it!) Thanks everyone!

Lg won't be adding HDR10+ anytime soon, and certainly not as an update to older sets.

HDR10+ (never) - why should they, they have their own highly effective implementation?

I am thinking about upgrading my current 3 year old Samsung 4K 8000 series 65" TV to the 2018 model LG OLED65B8PUA 65-Inch. I just wanted input from you guys that are familiar with that model. I can't break the bank for an OLED and I'm currently happy with my display but am interested in having a set with Dolby Vision and getting an upgrade. Is it worth it?

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Very nice upgrade idea. Check out the C9, which is about $200 more and has the flagship a9 Gen ll video processor, nicer stand and improved audio.

I appreciate that recommendation. I'm really just trying to gauge if it'll overall be worth the purchase. I wonder if that set will come down in price around November or so.

Same.

I'm actually wondering if around February, we'll see some sub 2,000 dollar sales on the 65 C9, like we did with the C8 at the start of this year (at least in the US).

We get promotional roadmaps that gives dealers a short look into the future sales.

The promotions in February are to move out the inventory to make room for the 2020 models that start launching by the end of March. However, by the end of the model year the temptation is to wait for the next generation as this technology evolves quickly.

Too true. Even this far ahead of time, with the PLAN of getting a C9 around Feb/March....there is also a part of my brain saying "But what might the 2020 models offer??"

I like mine. I'm glad I got it over the C-models, as the C8 in particular was beset with firmware issues.

If HDMI 2.1 functions like eARC are important, I'd hold out for the newer 9 models. Otherwise the improvement in OLEDs for the past few years has been very marginal. At this sort of level they are all good TVs and into getting into the minuate of improvements.

Ah gotcha. I'm really looking for something with a great price point and the reviews for this set were on a lot of lists I read. I really don't want to spend over 2 grand for another TV.
