Yeah, geeking out with you guys is equally as interesting as seeing this show! Maybe even better! Lol.
I tried to buy a ticket and must have been doing something wrong. It seemed to want me to buy tickets for 4 events - something about a subscription purchase.

I'll look again and give this some thought. No one I know will go with me, so I might need to be a bit of a hanger-on if I go to NYC. Sounds pathetic, right? I've only been there once. I can get my own room, but I'd be interested to know what the weekend itinerary is (or if there is one) for people who are going.

I'll be coming in with a good friend from Maine, and you'd be more than welcome to join us. Current plans are for us to get down there late Friday afternoon, get to the bunk, and make it to the performance on Friday night. We're going to Egypt in December -- long story, I'll tell you Saturday -- so our other big plan is to spend most of Saturday at the MET in the Egyptian section.

My friend's also making rumbles from up there that he might want to stay longer and check out some of the great food in the area. I think he grew up just outside NYC. And then there's the Museum of the Moving Image. So these plans may change. In 10 days, I'm abandoning the sizzling South for a couple of weeks in the Maine countryside, and I'll nail down definite plans with him at that time. I'll let everyone know here.

I'm about to piss my pants to see this performance, and to get to meet some of you guys f2f is also yuge. You and JW007 are in the top of the people I largely agree with on judgements and certainly on what I value in film. This is gonna be great.

Good luck with the tickets. Let us know if they pan out.

That's nice of you to say and nice of you to extend the invite.

I'm a little on the fence, but let me price it out. I told my wife and she said that she'd go with. She didn't like the film at all when we saw it the first time. Granted this will be more of an experience than a revisiting of the film, but we'll have to see how the plan progresses.

I'll keep you guys posted.

Go to this link: http://commerce.bam.org/tickets/prod...aspx?pid=11715

The link to "Buy Tickets" was located in the top right corner just underneath the top poster image, so you may have missed that button.

You're welcome to hang out with me and any friends I might meet up with in NYC too. I'm def. interested in seeing the Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria, Queens. Every time I go back to NYC (I go like 2-3 times a year), I always mean to go to that place and never end up having the time (they're also closed Monday and Tuesday).

Hey RojD, yes for sure, the Museum of the Moving Image would be a great place to meet up! They're open until 7pm on Sunday (and closed Mon and Tue.). So if you guys end up staying beyond Saturday, then that would be a good plan for Sunday afternoon! Regardless, the unofficial meetup for the blu-ray.com people will be at VIDEOLOGY in Williamsburg, Brooklyn @ 11pm Sat. night after the final performance of the TTOL screening/orchestra.

There's still a LOT OF TIME until this! So though I do enjoy making plans this far in advance, a lot can change of course!

And thanks a lot for your kind words by the way.

Hey there everyone...

It's only about 3 weeks until this event.

Just wondering if I can get a running list of people who plan to attend either of the screenings for The Tree of Life screening/orchestra?

I'm planning on being at the Sat. night (Nov. 19) showing at 7:30 pm with my ticket.

Thanks!

Count me in! And a friend. I'm not having super luck with AirBNB, but I think we have a room near the the Museum of the Moving Image. But whatever the case, count me in for VIDEOLOGY in Williamsburg, Brooklyn @ 11pm Sat. night.

If I get real ambitious, I'll post how long the performance runs. Should be the length of the film, right?

I'll be at the Saturday screening too!

Finally just booked an Airbnb (private room) to stay at.

So the after-party will be at Videology on Sat. night!

By the way, I'll be flying into NYC on Thursday afternoon and leaving Monday. So if either of you guys want to hang out before Sat. night, do you want to explore the Museum of the Moving Image and then maybe hang out in the city later at night and grab some dinner?

SammyJankis and RojD: Let me know the dates you'll be in the city. Maybe we can do this on Sunday as the museum is open until 7 pm.

My younger sister is joining me for the screening too (it was last minute). She's going to stay with some friends over the weekend. Apparently, its one of her favorite films of all time (and I didn't even know this)!

Have fun, guys! My wife's mother and aunts are in from India, so this didn't work out. Life has gotten complicated otherwise, as well, but that isn't a story for here.

Take a picture and post back here! Enjoy the experience.

I went right by BAM today. So much construction going on around there right now (and all over Brooklyn really). Hope everyone has a truly magical time!

Hey all,

I finally got back from NYC this past weekend and have to say that the screening of The Tree of Life at the Brooklyn Academy of Music was pretty amazing.

A couple of guys on this forum (RojD and SammyJankis) were supposed to meet up with me sometime that weekend but things didn't fall through, so none of us got to meet up.

However, seeing this epic Terrence Malick film in a huge theater complete with a 100 piece symphony orchestra and live choir was phenomenal. At times I wasn't sure what to look at... the movie or the musicians? I mostly stared at the screen, but since I'd seen this film already, I wanted to take in the spectacle of seeing a live orchestra scoring a film, so at times I was thoroughly amazed at how seamless the live music went with the movie. They were perfectly on cue. Now I want to see more favorite films of mine with an accompanying live orchestra! I can't imagine how beautiful it would be to experience a movie such as 2001: A Space Odyssey with a live orchestra too. Does anyone know if such experiences take place on a regular basis somewhere around the world?

I've attached a photo I shot right after the credits finished rolling as the musicians played. The moment of the photo captures the applause from the audience and how the many musicians were honored. To be honest, I hadn't seen this film in about 5 years, and many parts of the film gave me an amazing emotional experience that I had yet to feel. The two parts that really got to me was the 15 minute universe-evolution sequence with the music by Mozart (Lacrimosa) as well as the finale beach sequence with the music by Berlioz (Agnus Dei). Man, what a wallop! I got hit hard. 'Twas hard to not keep a tear running down my cheek sitting there on the Mezzanine level with my actress friend Marci.
