Default Amazon UK Allowing Standard Shipping To USA Again

I posted this in the Retail/Shopping Forum, but maybe this is important enough to have it's own thread:

It looks like Amazon.uk is allowing standard shipping to the US again! I just placed an order for 4 items. First item was £3.08, additional items were £0.99 each. Total shipping was £6.05. I noticed the change on my wish list. Most were showing £14.38 shipping, while some showed £3.08. Even the ones that were £14.38 allowed me to select the cheaper standard shipping rate. Preorders that don't have a short time until release are still showing that they can't be shipped to the US (at least the couple that I looked at).

Just placed orders for Amazon UK and Amazon Germany. Both are offering standard shipping now.

I was excited to see this until I saw that the standard option is even more than priority! $50.00 shipping is almost equal to the cost of the items.

I placed an order with Amazon UK, as well, just to make sure I wasn't seeing things. Lol

This is great. I’m still seeing restrictions on some preorders though.

I had a 10 pound off 30 pound promo offer for using the app for the first time in the UK store. I was pleasantly surprised how you can use the Amazon app for every country with ease...

So Amazon UK will ship to US again but Amazon Canada still won't. Makes total sense... lol

It looks like amazon.co.uk finally updated their standard shipping charges to the US. When standard shipping to the US returned in mid-August, the rate was £3.08 for the first item plus £0.99 for each additional item. This is the same rate as pre-pandemic, even though US international postal rates increased significantly in July. Today I'm seeing £6.96 for the first item plus £1.54 for each additional item.

Understandable but what a bummer—similar to the Base.com bump earlier this summer.

Glad I got a couple orders in before the increase. And that's one crazy big increase. Had been thinking of making another order, but with these new shipping charges, I'm not sure if it isn't better to wait for a good deal on eBay instead. Too bad...

It still far better than Priority Only like in May and June.

Nowhere near as bad as Amazon.de -- 12.95EUR for 1st item for std shipping plus 2.80EUR ea additional. I think it was 4EUR + 1 ea additional afterwards. After the 3rd item, Global Expedited shipping is cheaper than standard and sometimes by a lot

Come to find out, I was getting a near Priority rate because I had 6 items in my cart. Don't know if this is new, but you only get the cheaper Standard Delivery option if you have 5 items or less. Anything 6 or greater and you're forced to select either Amazon Global Standard or Priority, and the Global Standard is only a couple pounds cheaper than the Priority.

Now zavvi's 9.99 shipping doesn't seem so bad.

This is getting stranger then.

I know I had 7 in my UK cart a Saturday and std shipping was around £16.

I just tried 12 -- 6 different items, mixed singles and boxsets, different studios and I'm still seeing Std Shipping £23.90 (AGS and Priority high 40's)

I even bumped it to 24 different items -- Std shipping £42 (Priority 88). A bunch of Arrow, Indicator, Disney, BBC titles -- no preorders.

I wonder why some people are getting different rates? It almost has to be location related though I didn't look at trying a bunch of preorders. I wonder if the updated shipping rates on Friday triggered some sort of glitch and at some point this week it will change.

Someone did contact AmazonUK over the weekend and asked about it and was told if they made such an order (4 items for £26 shipping), that Amazon would refund the excess charge. I'm guessing that would be down to routine std shipping.

This is just baffling to read so many different issues going on.
I tried with a very old account (never Prime) and never had been used to order from UK --

I tried of course with my main account which registered at AmazonUK long before the One Sign In account existed. It has had Prime trials a couple times, but not now.

I tried with my main US AMazon acct/Prime

I couldn't come up with a combination of items or address that didn't give me the std shipping option -- currently £6.98 plus approx 1.5 ea added item. No issues with Preorders, orders with 10 items, multiple addresses with different states.

Could someone not getting the Std option with a basket of 6 items possibly post which items are in your cart and a zip code to see if it some sort of account related issues, items issues, or zip code dependent?

I had an issue where the standard option disappeared if I added items from more than one seller to my cart (even when all items were shipped by Amazon).

I was buying Eureka titles, and had in blus in my cart sold by bestmediagroup (but shipped by Amazon). By adding something sold and shipped by Amazon the standard option disappeared.

This happened with a lot of seller/item combinations. I ended up having to do an order of only items from bestmediagroup, and luckily this was before rates went up.
