Thumbs up LG 2023 C3 Series OLED TV

Another nice year for LG OLED TVs and their new 2023 LG Display modules.

From LG Electronics we have the new 2023 a9 Gen 6 SoC processor re-programmed to enhance up-scaling, and more accurate contrast control algorithms.

The C3 is also packed with all new HDMI 2.1a capability, which enables Quick Media Switching (QMS) or QMS-VRR to eliminate the black screen you see whenever you switch between devices that operate at different frame rates.

The Wi-Fi has been updated to the latest and fastest wireless 2G and 5G “Wi-Fi 6”

Here's LG's 2023 C3 Series OLED TV .pdf spec sheet:

https://valueelectronics.com/wp-cont...pecSheet-2.pdf

Two very nice launch promotions when buyers pair any screen size C3 OLED TV with LG's new S9C 3.1.3 Dolby Atmos Sound Bar w/wireless sub audio system.

First, is you get a $500 discount and you will also get an additional 5% credit on the C3 purchase, which is then applied to the small 1/2 price balance left after the $500 instant rebate. So if depending on which screen size G3 is purchased you may have a very small balance to add LG's new 2023 S9C 3.1.3 Channel audio system.

Here's LG's 2023 S9C 3.1.3 Channel Sound Bar Audio System webpage with the .pdf spec. sheet on the page:

@Darkmninya, LG's new 2023 a9 Gen 6 processor has more memory and the firmware algorithms have been redesigned to exploit all of the benefits of the higher contrast thanks to the 20% brighter 2023 LG Display WRGB OLED Module. The new a9 Gen 6 processor and new firmware have enhanced the Tone Mapping to more closely follow the EOTF PQ Curve.

Here's what I am told about LG's new AI Picture Pro. AI Picture Pro has stored examples of many common items, e.g. flesh tones, the color of the sky in all weather conditions and times of the day, and the green grass, etc, and takes advantage of the new 2023 C3's increased dynamic tonal range, color fidelity, color saturation/color volume capability to best render the most accurate images.

Ok but when does it work ? It never works , that's the Problem. When does it actually work

@Darkmninya, what feature are you referring too?

I spent a lot of time with the C3 and G3 TVs at CES, and with the HQ engineers, and product management, but my full evaluation will happen once we get LG's C3 and G3 that are now expected by the end of next week.

So perhaps with all the improvements on the new models, a calibration shouldn't be quite as extensive?

AI is a no-go. Especially if you care at all about accuracy.

It’s nice to see LG is committed to to re-sell this feature but all of us owners know it doesn’t work in real world viewing content. Maybe it does in LG’s authoring videos for demonstration purposes. Good to have if you only plan to watch LG content.

The biggest advantage I observe gen-over-gen (newer SOC) is micro improvements to LG’s user interface latency such as full screen UI & networking.

Yes, and much like all other TYV brands the annual processing upgrades and enhancements have been incremental, but well appreciated. For the 2022 a9 Gen 5 being a very nice upgrade from previous years.

From what I have seen and learned in my in-person and all other communications with the LG folks in the know the 2023 a9 Gen 6 is very well planned to be another nice upgrade year for picture quality performance and new features.

We'll still run CalMan to best set-up the CMS and the new 3 disc Spears & Munsil UHD HDR Benchmark test disc to set contrast and other attributes.

Default Bracket

Hi Robert. Could you please tell us if the soundbar sinergy bracket only fits with the C3 rear panel or also with the G3? And will there be a bundle offer also with G3 like it's happening with the C3?

I'm checking on if LG's new SC9 3.1.3 Sound Bar audio system's included bracket will work with the G3 TV. It's designed for the C2 and C3. I'll get back with a definitive answer.

I can confirm that all of the very special new integration features that uses LG's C2, C3 and G3 TVs speakers along with the SC9's 3.1.3 speakers to deliver more Dolby Atmos/DTS:X channels and improved overall audio performance and larger sound stage.

This new audio integration feature is properly called the "Wow Orchestra feature".

Sorry no bundle promotion for the G3 and S9C, but check your favorite authorized dealer to get your best deal.

Tomorrow we'll have LG's very first delivery of G3 TVs, and early next week I'll have LG's new 2023 SC9 3.1.3 Sound Bar audio system.

I'll try them together with all of the new audio integration features and I'll try to attach the SC9 as it attaches to the C3 when wall mounted and or attached to the G3 when the table top pedestal stand is used.

I'm so excited to get LG's G3 new 2023 MLA Gallery Series OLED TVs!

We're also scheduled to receive tomorrow, Tuesday, march 21, Samsung 65" and 75" QN90C QD MiniLED 4K HDR TVs.

Hi Robert,

could you please try QMS (QuickMediaSwitching) with the LG G3 and AppleTV 2022? 😉👍

We've been testing the QMS with Blu-ray players, our OTA antenna connected to the G3's built-in ATSC decoder/tuner, and Kaleidescape and no black screen or any noticeable delay in displaying any of the source devices.

But I think QMS is currently only supported by the AppleTV 2022?
So no BluRayPlayer etc is able to support QMS at this time…

Do you have an AppleTV 2022 to test it out?

It seems you just have to activate it on the LG and the AppleTV. But it’s not working when changing the DynamicRange (for example from SDR to HDR or DolbyVision). It works only if the Framerate is changing, but SDR remains continuous!

On AppleTV 2022 it must be activated under "Video and Audio" > "Match Content".
On the LG it must be activated under "HDMI Settings“…

Any chance Sony or LG will offer a reference OLED screen that offers high brightness with pure RGB pixels like the Samsung S95C series? Any future Sony or LG OLED screen will be compared to the top of the like flagship Samsung S95C. So far no OLED screen offers a better picture quality then the Samsung S95C.

Sound and Vision magazine test results confirm that Samsung is now King of OLED picture quality. Maybe in late 2023 Sony or LG will release something that is better.

I was going to mention here that the C3 and G3 didn't have a way to turn off TPC, which auto-dims the screen, even in very dark movies. However, it looks like LG was on top of it and released a firmware update to fix the issues. Now if they could just fix it with their older models from the 6 Series all the way up to the 2 series. I know I would be happy that I could reset the setting in my LG C9 service menu instead of leaving it "off."

Sorry to post this again, but to be sure anyone viewing this knows all of the information:

I watch Vincent's earlier video and it looked NOTHING like the G3 shipment we received Monday, March 20th.

I did the latest firmware update before I viewed the TV, but myself and all of the professional video experts I showed the G3 to saw no dimming on any content. In fact, we all mentioned how stable the TV was and that we did not see any dimming of the image.

I've spoke with the engineers and product management and this image luminance stability was achieved by many upgrades and enhancements in the new a9 Gen 6 processor, a welcome change in the "Panel Refresh cycles", and the new 2023 LG Display OLED module itself.
