Default A Must for the Collector

Just watched my copy. TT has come through on this one. Superb transfer both picture and sound. I had seen the film many times on TV, VHS and DVD and always suspected that something wasn't quite right. This film is treat especially on large screens. The aerial photography of the dogfights is spectacular.

I know many have a prejudice against TT but put it aside and get it now. I say now because the positive reviews appearing at several sites today are likely to lead to run on the 3,000 copies. I doubt if this release will last very long.

You mean Fox came through right? As far as the transfer goes, it's all Fox. Kudos to TT for releasing it though. And I don't care what others say, I'm glad that they are finally adding actual new extras to their releases with the audio commentaries. Some people don't care, but I like commentaries, and I'm glad that TT crew has gotten around to doing some.

After such positive reviews I had to snap this one up, another classic which I enjoyed through the seventies

Default Trivia

Here's a bit of trivia about the cast of The Blue Max that should delight fans of this movie and John Huston's Moby Dick. The actor who played sophisticated Field Marshall von Lenndorf in TBM was also Queequeg, the mysterious and primitive (Polynesian?) native and friend of Ishmael in Moby Dick. I knew the face was familiar when I first saw him in TBM on the VHS tape of this movie but it took several viewings before the voice suddenly made me recognize him. Actors do have to be versatile!

Too bad about the limited to 3000 copies bit. I guess I'll still have to wait until this gets a more general circulation and better price. Glad the transfer is good, one of the last war movies I really want but don't have yet.

wow, the number of war movies I still want on bd is massive because in general classic war movies have gotten the middle finger on bd so far.
I mean there are probably a good 100 imo from the 40's, 50's, and 60's just waiting to be released.
Fox alone has so many great war films that need to be given an hd release.
maybe one day............

Some of these classic 60's WWII movies already on Blu-ray need to be revisted and brought up to the standards we see here with The Blue Max:

Warner:
The Dirty Dozen
Kelly's Heroes
Where Eagles Dare

MGM:
The Devil's Brigade......not even out here in the States.

I watched a lot of the 40's to 60's war films while growing up in the 70's and found a lot of them to be kind of hokey. There were some that I enjoyed but probably not enough to buy. But whenever I decide to try out netflix again and go on a renting binge, I'll try some of again. I will agree with you that I think B&W films in general, including war films, should be released faster.

Default "Limited to 3,000 Copies" ... So, What's the Point? You Can't Buy It, Anyway!

It's funny seeing all the entries stating they're going to buy it on "Day One" and can't wait to add it to their collections... when no one here can buy it! It's limited to 3,000 copies and apparently all of them are spoken for as this title is not being released for actual sale. Go ahead... try to pre-order it or otherwise purchase it. Yeah... that's right... you can't!

So, what's the point?!

Default About Screen Archives

I ordered it about a month ago when it first went on sale. It shipped on the release date and arrived here in Canada 10 days later. So far I have had no trouble with Screen Archives. (Just ordered Oliver today by the way).

The 3,000 copies limit does not seem to be the problem many of us thought it would be. Oliver went on sale last fall and still is plentiful. Most other TT releases are still in stock. It seems that selling 3,000 copies of a catalogue title is the exception today. The collector market just does not seem to be there any more. Certainly not as it once was with DVDs. It is understandable why the majors are now subleasing their catalogue films.
