Default UK Numbers Not Helped very Much by Metal Gear Solid 4, 7% Increase Only

It doesn't look like The UK Numbers Were Helped much by the PS3

Quote:
Despite going straight in at number one in the software charts and being the biggest PlayStation 3-exclusive release so far, Metal Gear Solid 4 has failed to prove a major driver of hardware in the UK, with Chart-Track revealing a "minimal" spike of seven percent over its opening weekend.

The UK sales monitor revealed last night that Konami's hugely anticipated blockbuster, which released worldwide last Thursday (June 12), has become the second fastest-selling PS3 title in the UK after Grand Theft Auto IV, and 14,000 short of the opening weekend figure recorded by Metal Gear Solid 2 on PS2 in 2002.

I work at a store which sells PS3s- and for over a month we had no PS3s in stock, only got 2 in this week. I don't know whether its a shortage all over the UK or just in my store, but this may have had an impact on the figures if there is a shortage.

That would definately do it. I know that a lot of stores here in BC are also having a problem with stock

MGS is not a household name in the UK. It has its fans but its a long way from being a top system seller. Besides, anyone who wanted a PS3 for MGS4 would have bought one ages ago. I know 2 or 3 people that bought a PS3 for MGS4 and bought it about 3 months ago.

Another reason could be that people were WAITING for the MGS4 80GB bundle which never came. Pretty bad move by SCEE.

Just replace the cover with a team picture of Manchester United and it will fly out the door.

Only Munchester United fans. Everyone else would give it a wide birth (I'm guessing your comment is tongue in cheek though)

Given how the game is flying and how many people were seen saying "I was so waiting for the 80Gb version) on Euro forums, I somehow doubt the original news, unless they do not count the probable shortages

I don't think Sony did the best job promoting this epic game....When i'm seeing tons of commercials for Haze during the NBA playoffs and never 1 Metal Gear commercial(in the playoffs) it's not getting the promotion it deserves...

It had been 4 years since a Metal Gear game.....along time in the video world..

This article is a bit premature. The 80 gig bundle wasn't readily available, and the game has only been out for one week as of today. If someone were waiting for MGS4 to purchase a PS3, then 1) they'll probably pick up the MGS4 bundle, or 2) they're a casual fan of the series and will not rush stores the first week to buy the system and game.

MGS4 is the biggest exclusive the PS3 has seen yet. It will probably take some time to convince people to adopt the PS3 and game, but it will. People probably will have to see it to believe it.

Right. Basically, I meant that if you promoted it as a soccer (or football as you like to call it) game, it would fly off the shelf.

Being the the states, I don't get much soccer action. Although, I've always been partial to AC Milan. Still have nightmares of the crossbar incident in the World Cup. No Baggio noooo!

And I'd always be down for watching men from the Republic of Ireland kick it around (although they can't seem to qualify for the World Cup ever).

Not familiar with all the teams, but being an Irish - Italian - American, it would be a cold day in hell before I cheer on any Brit team.

Just got in PES 2008. I can't believe a soccer game has a strategy guide. I better read it.
