Is there any news about 2 and 3 getting released individually? I really want 1, but I am torn if I really want the trilogy right now. Eventually yes, but not necessarily right now.

I wouldn't bet on it. Fox is probably more likely to put both trilogies in a single box set before Dark Phoenix than to put out singles for the first 3.

The irony being, the first movie isn't really that good.

I'm not sure why Predators is so much worse to so many people. It's a decent movie, might even be stronger as a film (it's been awhile since I've seen the original). Arnold's charisma and the introduction of one of the coolest, most badass creature designs in cinema, along with an awesome main music theme, are the reasons why it's a cult classic. Predators doesn't have the makings of a cult fandom, but it has a little more going on, and more emotional substance. I'm sure I'll get attacked for having that opinion. To be fair, I do need to revisit McTiernan's film, but while I liked it, I was never crazy about it.

So I watched Predator 2 via 4K UHD. I also put in the Blu-ray disc just to sample some differences. Surprisingly, the regular Blu-ray audio has more punch. The music is much more prominent in the mix. The surrounds are more enveloping and the LFE really pounds. I played both at the same sound level. Both are 5.1 mixes. The 4K audio sounds fine but when doing a "side by side", it's a bit "flat" in comparison. I didn't expect that...

The 4.0 lossless mix sounded good on the 4K, IMO.

Funny as I would have assumed they used the exact same track.

That's why I found it really odd. Even the review on this site indicates that it's the same track. Perhaps it is the same track but the Blu-ray maybe has the audio at a higher "hotter" level? Perhaps someone else can chime in when they get a chance to compare?

Thumbs up

Just watched the original for the first time on 4k last night.

All I can say is THANK YOU to Fox for not blowing this. This is without a doubt the best Predator has ever looked on home video. All the color, depth and clarity that I have not seen in this film since it's theatrical release.
Extra bonus points for not running the whole thing through the TEAL machine.

Yeah, all that and it's down to $15 now. WB, take note on the price incentive, please.

What I like about the release is that it finally feels as if I'm watching PREDATOR on film rather than analog or digital video.

The only thing that sucks is the box cover art (the creature design is supposed to be a surprise but is spoiled by the cover art...and before someone says "who cares, the fans already know what the creature looks like," I say the fans want original theatrical art on their releases. UHD is an enthusiast format. Why is this so difficult to understand?)

I also find it incredible that a Schwarzenegger film doesn't feature him on the box cover, but that's a sign of the times. My, how the world has changed, and how the mighty have fallen. Ah-nold was an unstoppable force back in those days; now, he's apparently an afterthought even in his best films' re-releases.

You really want an SPL so to listen to both tracks at the same level to hear if there are differences.
