Default Genmu Senki Leda 4K remaster coming

Not sure if this has been posted or not before but if it has, feel free to call me out and delete the post.

幻夢戦記レダ / Genmu Senki Leda is getting a 4K remaster!! This is awesome news.

No English subs or dub unfortunately for those that need it but hopefully Discotek jumps on this.

The release is 1080p no UHD/4K. Will we see a 4K release at some point? No idea.

Original announcement:

https://www.atpress.ne.jp/news/178488

Crunchyroll announcement in English:

And the ordering page on Toho's official Anime Store:

And Amazon JP's ordering page (they have an exclusive 3 poster set or post card set version):

And I made a database listing. Kinda pointless to make an entire thread for this one title.

Neat. With that production team and that character design, I might like it.

It's a good OVA. But it's only about an hour, and plays like a short but pleasant daydream.

It’s 72 minutes, a decent length for an OVA. It was one of the first successful OVA releases (and it also received a theatrical release as a result). It was an early example of what today would be called “isekai” and it was an influence on a number of people in the industry (notably Yuu Watase, the creator of Fushigi Yugi).

I find it highly nostalgic today since it’s very obviously a product of its time. The character designer was Mutsumi Inomata (Windaria), the soundtrack was by Sagisu Shirō (Evangelion, Nadia, Megazone 23, Kimagure Orange Road), and the heroine was voiced by the late Hiromi Tsuru (KOR's Madoka, Ukyo in Ranma).

I've had it pre-ordered since hearing of it as well.

This is probably going to be the best release of the year for me! I had this on VHS years ago, and I finally managed to get the LD a while back; this is one of my favorite OVA, and I can't wait to see it on blu-ray.

Default It has arrived!

I just finished watching. Probably my first full viewing of the film since the early 1990's -- and it's still as fun as ever. The picture quality here is very good (even better than that YouTube clip) and is apparently from a 4K master. There is practically no grain at all -- but also without any obvious evidence of DNR. To be clear, there is loads of detail on display and this is a pleasure to view. For a film that was conceived for the standard-def home video market of the 1980's, the imagery holds up extremely well -- this is by far the best LEDA has ever looked.

I know this title is on few people's wish-lists, but I am really thrilled with getting LEDA on bluray. And for those who are extremely nostalgic, you will be glad to know the English-language version of the 1985 trailer is also included in HD as a special feature.

I watched my copy last night and the picture quality is indeed very good. The colors in particular (Yohko's red hair!) really pop on this Blu-ray. Like you said, there's almost no grain, but I didn't notice any signs of obvious DNR. To me it looks a lot like the Megazone 23 remaster (another OVA from the same year).

It was amusing to see the English language version of the trailer again, and in HD no less. I only wish they had included the somewhat infamous "bobby soxer" English dub, as I've never actually heard it. I learned from the Japanese version of the trailer that this was shown in theaters with Vampire Hunter D. I guess that makes sense since VHD creator Hideyuki Kikuchi wrote the novelization of Leda.

Hopefully this sells well and we get a Blu-ray release of Windaria, another anime from Kunihiko Yuyama/Mutsumi Inomata/Kaname Productions that has been OOP for quite some time.

I just got mine in today!

I wasn't really sure what to expect of the books, but I think they're actually quite nice. I haven't had a chance to watch it yet, but I plan to do so tonight.

Yup. I found myself thinking about WINDARIA several times while viewing LEDA -- would be great to get it as well.

Pointless? Really?
Not at all, as folks have a lot of info to share.
Maybe it's not worthwhile info to you but it's obviously worthwhile to others, including me who finds this title worthwhile to pick up based on comments.

Every 80's standalone OAV that gets a blu-ray release should get a dedicated thread: there aren't that many unfortunately.
