Um, okay....pass.
Recap movies are nothing new A lot of anime series have them.

KyoAni for example always do them. The Sound Eupho and Free Ones (well I dunno about the new one yet obviously) are great.

Most Gundam series have them, too. I don't think I own a single one, but I do have the Puella movies on the way, since they were so cheap.

^^ OK, good to know, thanks.
I do hope that it's also common to mention on package text, that a certain release is a recap and not a full version, when applicable.

Indeed, they have been around for decades. They're typically made because they're not too difficult to make (a bunch of the footage is already done) and turn a decent profit, they can keep a franchise alive in people's minds rather than letting it fade away, and they can quickly refresh people's memories on something in a shorter amount of time. They're very rarely ever better than the original series, but they can be interesting if done well enough. I don't like when those are skipped here.

>Is reminded that the 2 Sound! Euphonium movies are unlicensed

I need to learn how to add subs to JP releases so much, like those 2 Sound! Euphonium movies, especially that second movie that covers that incredible second season that was the best thing I had seen in 5 years.

The only recap film(s) which I’d say were better than the series proper is the original Mobile Suit Gundam from 1979. The Movie Trilogy is the definitive experience for me, other than The Origin manga.

Unfortunately I don't believe this is the case; I know before buying anything that's a movie related to a series, I always try to research to know what I'm getting.

Maybe it's one of those lists someone should make.

I do agree it's definitely not the best solution for everyone. It's nice to load up all my shows and movies in a netflix style UI without swapping discs around and get local 1:1 playback. If my friends want to watch I can cap the bitrate for remote users so they are only using a fraction of my bandwidth and still getting decent quality. It's better than not being able to watch at all and only costs me a little work on the backend
Is it legal for you to distribute (host) movies and shows for your friends like that?

First international release outside Japan. Nice. I’ve noticed that German releases of anime are a mixed bag in terms of quality. Some are maxed out bitrate (35 mbps+) encodes on BD-50s, and some squeeze as much on a disc as possible with lossy audio sometimes. I hope we get a good release out of it.

Episodes 1-4? Does Germany do Japanese style releases?

Yeah. They release in volumes, but with 3 or 4 episodes per volume as opposed to the Japanese model of 2 or 3.

KonoSuba looks interesting. I like to check it out whenever it comes to US.

Watch it on Crunchyroll now, you might be in for a long wait otherwise.
