This is my favorite all time movie in any genre. This is the one Miyasaki movie I have been wanting the most.

I am hoping we get 4 Ghibli movies from Disney whenever they announce their titles for the year. I am really hoping for Porco, Kiki, Spirited, and Mononoke.

I've heard so many positive things about this one. I'll definitely be blind buying it.

Uuuummmmmmmmmmmmmm........... That trailer totally has interlacing. Doesn't bode well.

It's like they took the existing master, did some color correcting, and that's it. Remastered!

I'd Ignore the interlacing. Most likely just the trailer.

pretty much, at least it looks like that from the trailer. Some comparison screenshots with the old master taken a couple weeks ago here:

I own the italian BD of cagliostro, which is based on the VAP one, and may actually be a bit better (it's 1080p). There's definitely room for improvement, and I thought all the Ghibli movies which are on their BD collection would receive top quality transfer treatment at Panasonic Labs.

So yeah, of course I'm not scared by an interlaced youtube video. And ready to import if the leap will be consistent. (I can already say I prefer the new color timing - which is actually closer to the old dvds, and to my memories of the movie being broadcasted here).

Is this why they are doing a new transfer?

So you would think that all of the movies would be done top notch to show off the master.

There's virtually no question the new Japanese master in the Miyazaki boxset (a Ghibli release there) will be high-quality. The $64,000 question is, will Discotek (whose rights are for the Lupin III TV series it was made from) use that master, or will they just reissue the 1080i master that's been floating around other countries for some time...

Well from what I have seen of Discotek they have a love of what they do, and this will be one of the biggest releases for them. I am really hoping they have both dubs like the Akira release did.

Why are you "really" hoping? They already said that both dubs will be included.

Well, considering Discotek's DVD or Lupin the first TV series looked better than the Japanese DVDs...

Any recent news on this? Was hoping for the late 2014 release, but I'm guessing it will be into 2015 before we see this.

The BD should be early next year. The DVD is coming out December 23rd.

The Discotek DVD's were from the Blu-ray remastered version and not the earlier DVD picture-quality source. However, I find it really annoying that a stateside Blu-ray release of the original Lupin episodes is unlikely to ever be seen because they licensed it.

Discotek claims that the '71 TV series was upscaled for Blu-ray and that their DVDs look better because you don't notice the frozen grain as much, lol. They were trying to gauge interest in putting the entire series on one Blu-ray Disc.

USA Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro 35th Anniversary Edition

Discotek will be releasing Hayao Miyazaki's debut film, The Castle of Cagliostro, on Blu-ray and DVD. It will be the 35th anniversary of the seminal film and Discotek plan on including newly commissioned extras to celebrate the occasion. Confirmed so far are an audio commentary track by Reed Nelson of Lupinthe3rd.com and an interview with Lupin voice actor, David B Hayter (Blu-ray only). Three English dubs will be included: the Streamline Pictures dub of 1992, the Manga Entertainment dub of 2000, and a cleaned-up "family-friendly" version of the Manga dub. The original Japanese audio will also be included along with newly translated English subtitles. Unlike the last US release of The Castle of Cagliostro by Manga Entertainment, Discotek's version will not edit the film's original opening credits sequence. The DVD is set to be released December 23 of this year. The Blu-ray is will be released later, but no official date has been announced.

North American thread was for attention.
Considering the age of that thread, it's more likely that it was just never moved when the Anime sub-forum appeared since the sub-forum didn't exist that long ago.
