No. I doubt you'll ever see that again.

Watch it with the 192/24 Japanese track instead

Hi everyone,

To answer a few questions, heard back from Bandai:

In regards to the region:

BANDAI: Our official stance is this product is meant to be sold in Japan and North America. We cannot guarantee other regions.

As for the Dub. Yes, on both Japanese or English menus, you have an option of English, Dolby TrueHD 5.1ch as a selection. And for which version, I can tell you it's not the badly dubbed Streamline version

And I wanted to confirm with Bandai if this Blu-ray release is the first to utilize 192 khz sound and the answer from BANDAI was:

Regarding AKIRA BD, this is the very first BD release to use 192kHz/24bit audio.

Again, this was created for the video and audio-phile, especially for the hardcore audio-phile. I've never seen a booklet included with the Blu-ray that goes into the science of sound and what was done to accomplish that. 15-pages of the booklet is all dedicated to audio.

I know little of this genre. The price for pre-order at Amazon is $34.99 which I'm unsure is reasonable. I'll have to rent it first or maybe the DVD to see what I think about it. I think I tried once way back but don't recall me liking it. If I did, I probably would have bought it then.

I can't see someone watching this who doesn't like anime. Even as a youngin' who only saw what Cartoon Network let me see, this film was hard to swallow. Thank goodness I grew up.. this movie is one of the best animated films ever.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

With a blu they should have included both dubs. Shame on them.

+1 only because it would appeal to a greater amount of people and use the Blu Ray to its fullest.

Darn, I wish someone with a Region B player as well could check it...

Same here. All I've heard so far, is "It's Bandai, so it should be region free, blah, blah, blah!"

Not exactly something I'd use as ammo for pre-ordering!

Rights to that dub are likely caught up in licensing hell due to having to purchase them from MGM

The disc uses every available bit of audio bandwidth for the Blu-ray format. The 192/24 track alone takes more space than some WB titles average video bitrates

I suggest that if people are really so worried about region codes that they just buy a region A player. It's cheaper than modchipping at this point, or buying a pre-mod.

Just a quick note. Some players are reporting the 192/24 track as stereo in their info and EDID info, but it is indeed a 5.1 mix. If your processor/AVR go to stereo when you're playing the disc, just force it to TrueHD and it should playback in 5.1 just fine.

The audio does sound great, especially considering the age, but I don't know how much fidelity improved because of the high sampling rate. The track is recorded really high and I had to back off the volume considerably from where I normally listen at. I would wager the original soundtrack wasn't recorded anywhere near this level of resolution and the increased sampling rate is more of a marketing gimmick than anything else. It isn't hard to upsample something but that doesn't automatically make it any better.

Yeah, especially after the GITS 2 Innocence release was locked. I know they were a slightly different department or what ever, but whatever, I'm still wary.

The first anime that had me interested in the genre. Let me review it: It's an amazing piece of animation and I love it. So when is this one coming on Bluray in Europe ?

If I remember correctly from the making of featurettes in the tin, didn't they do a whole lot of revamping of the audio for the re-release? Its been a few years so I can't remember.
