Yea...but it's a story of loneliness...desperation and just how far a person will go to gain companionship. The sci-fi was a side thing, necessary only to provide the right setting to make the story work. Everyone I have shown it to liked it.

I watched this again last week albeit in 4k again not 3D, I think it's a fantastic film. My wife isn't keen due to the premise of waking Aurora up from her pod, I can see that be being a male (at least the last time I checked) I can totally understand why he did. I would have myself I'm sure, the fact it was Jennifer was just a bonus!.

On a side note the bass in this movie is incredible whenever the ship passes through a scene, my sofa hovers !.

I think that's what's so fascinating about this film. Him finding somebody to obsess over and awaken is pretty much his self-preservation system kicking in. He needed something to live for. Anything. All he had was loneliness to look forward to for the rest of his life. Then, just as he was on the verge of giving up, he instead found somebody to capture his interest, and even though he knew it was wrong, waking her up was literally the only thing that he could think of that would give him a reason to live.

There's some heavy themes in the film. It's a shame so many people dismissed it as him just being a jerk and calling the film nonsensical for allowing her to forgive him, when that's the whole point of the film - could she ever forgive him, once she understood what he was feeling? That's some heavy stuff.

It’s easier to forgive given he presented her with the option of going back into hyper-sleep—essentially providing her with a choice.

Deck-Chief Gus pointed out an important point after Aurora exclaimed to him:
[Show spoiler]Aurora:
It's Murder!

Gus:
You're right Aurora,
[Show spoiler]But the drowning Man will ALWAYS try to drag someone down with him.
It ain't right.
But the man's DROWNING!

Aurora stated later:
[Show spoiler]"We're stranded on a sinking ship."

And it's interesting that Aurora herself later asked in an intense moment:
[Show spoiler]"Can we wake up some of the crew?"

Yes, I'm pretty sure any of us in this situation would eventually
[Show spoiler]wake someone up
or possibly commit suicide. I thought what he did was believable and her reaction and later acceptance was also believable, and the captain's explanation was spot on.

My only complain here is there should be a slipcover. Definitely my favorite all-time movie.

Love this film, especially in 3D. Not getting why some say the 3D is meh; it’s definitely one of the better conversions I’ve seen, with a nice amount of depth, really adds to the lovely visual design of the film. The story works just fine for me as well. I agree with those who think it’s sadly underrated. A pox on the naysayers. And, this is my absolute fave role for Michael Sheen. What a scene-stealer he is in this.

Michael Sheen can be a bit all over the place, especially in Hollywood movies but he was fine in this.

I've always really enjoyed the movie and the 3D is decent enough.

Absolutely love this film and the themes it covers... I really enjoy these type of sci-fi movies where they look at human interaction and behaviour in extreme circumstances. Moon is another great example of this type of slow burn cerebral film....sci-fi at it's best.

Production design, pacing, story, visual effects and 3D are all excellent.

**********SPOILERS*********

I do wonder (and i'm not the first) if the movie would have been more interesting told solely from the perspective of Lawrence's character. IE we, the audience don't know that Pratt decided to wake her up because he was lonely.

I don't think it would work nearly as well that way. What makes it work imo is knowing (and seeing) what he did, how he arrived at that point, where he was that desperate, and then seeing him try to hide it from her, with her falling for him, unaware of what happened. Take that all away and all you would have is a twist ending where it is all revealed in the end, like so many other movies do. This one remained interesting because you could see his moral dilemma.
