There's actually some doubt surrounding the two console approach now. It's been quite a while since the last mention of two consoles and after E3 sites have been commenting that they believe MS may have changed their plans for two models at launch so we might just be getting the one.

There's a strong assumption at this point that at the very least the X should play "next gen" games. There's technically no reason for it not to. This is why going forward we need to think of consoles as systems in the Playstation or Xbox family as there's no clear "generations" unless either of them decide to make it so and lock out previous systems.

Now do I think both will let next gen games play on the base consoles? That's a very good question. Obviously at some point games will run like dog crap on the original consoles.

Which leads in to Project xCloud. If you don't feel like upgrading but you still want to play the latest games, there’s an option.

I like it's potential for on the go gaming. But at home it's native only!

That is a strong assumption alright as it would require all devs to make a new port for every project.

that's fine but maybe i'm old fashioned i don't give a shit, but i never play games on my phone, that's what it's for talking or a surf the net on it that's about it, using IMDB cause i never use rotten tomatoes i just don't like it that's all.

just like on my kindle i use that for comic books and books why? cause that's what it's made for. games are made for console only in my eyes that's how i grew up playing that's my preference, i didn't spend $400 bucks on my pS4, or $500 on my 1st one X, or $400 on my 2nd one X to play my games anywhere else. or $300 for my Switch but with that one you can take anywhere with you.

i just don't belong to nintendo online as i hear it sucks ass anyways. but to each their own who want to try and who are going to try it. i never bought into the play anywhere thing, unless it's the switch since that is made to take anywhere but that's me though.

anyways, i prolly should go back and watch the part on E3 2016 or 2017 where Phil Spencer said that the X will play Next Gen. i could have sworn he said that. he hasn't said anything as far as i know about it recently though in any interview he's done but i don't think he's been asked either to be fair.

Watched a Phil interview on Giant Bomb after E3.

Cool guy & you can see he cares about gaming. He had good points about why E3 is relevant to the industry as a whole. He respects Nintendo & what they have done with the Switch. As for X Cloud, itís more of an option or another way to play the games you invested in on the go. He & others donít know where it will lead long term & I appreciate his honesty around the subject.

that's true he is honest about that, the thing is i hope and pray that games 10 years from now aren't just that Cloud service games cause that would really suck ass man. nothing beats actually owning a physical copy of it. i may have game pass now and i did did download crackdown 3 but that's on one game i'm glad i didn't pay for.

I've read over the weekend that there is a rumour that the lower spec Project Scarlett has been dropped by MS. Sorry, can't find the article.

If this is true, it signifies that:

MS is confident that they can match/beat PS5 pricing with Project Scarlett Anaconda,

or

Anaconda's performance is going to be lower than PS5 so there's no point to developing a slower machine,

or both.

There're also many people stating 120fps@8k but I don't think this is true. All the reliable info I've read states capable of '8K, 120fps' not '8K+120fps'. Capable of up to 120fps in 4K, and capable of 8K output (most likely in 30fps range), I think is more reasonable & logical. It also aligns well with XBOXONEX capability of ~30fps in 4K, hence Scarlett being 4 times the performance of XBOXONEX.

I am PERFECTLY fine with up to '120fps in 4K'.

I’m expecting 8K won’t be native on either system, but if they did have native 8K @ 120 FPS it probably will probably be Geometry Wars 4 or Sony’s next fireworks simulator. After a few years it’ll be Gran Turismo and Forza, because racing games always seem to push the best features.

It's not going to be able to do 8K120p that's a physical impossibility thanks to the HDMI 2.1 standard that these next consoles will be using.

8K over HDMI 2.1 is limited to 60HZ 4K and under will do 120fps

I wouldnt even expect anything to be native 8K on any of the new consoles. The only things I can see supporting it could be menus or backgrounds just general UI things like that.

As part of a large profile put together at Gamespot of the Xbox boss, Spencer discussed Project Scarlett, Xbox's next console. It seems like making games look not only gorgeous, but smooth in motion, is a target for the hardware manufacturer.

"Ensuring that the games load incredibly fast, ensuring that the game is running at the highest frame rate possible," Spencer told Gamespot. "We're also the Windows company, so we see the work that goes on [for] PC and the work that developers are doing. People love 60 frames-per-second games, so getting games to run at 4K 60 [FPS] I think will be a real design goal for us."
Quote:
Spencer goes on to say that 4K is also important, but playability is probably the bigger focus for Microsoft. "How fast do [games] load? Do I feel like I can get into the game as fast as possible and while it's playing? How does it feel? Does this game both look and feel like no other game that I've seen? That's our target," Spencer says.

Not wrong there.

I enjoy games at 60fps even if of lesser quality than better 30fps games.

Im guessing we wont be seeing many games at all passing the 60fps mark. I guess there's no need to given the console space is dominated by TVs that are capped at 60fps. Would be nice if there was an option to go higher for those of us with monitors and the few who buy up the new HDMI standard TVs that support 120fps.

I am perfectly fine with 60fps@4K. Don't care for 8K since I intend on keeping 4K TV purchased in 2018 until 2025 minimum.

I was OK with 30fps just 5 years ago!

I just want the Flight Simulator @60fps and I'll be up in the clouds . . .
