This was posted on 3/29. I didn't see a follow-up post on Weapons of Death.

We just finished up listening to our audio for the Italian for Special Cop in Action, needs a bit of work but it is totally usable. Weapons of death is on the table now so will update on the language tracks tomorrow after we go over this one.

From Facebook earlier today:

Quote:
While we wrap up on our final details for the Explosive Eurocrime Double Feature Vol. 1, we have just finished all our preliminary checks on the Larraz double feature release coming together very soon. We will have a commentary track for both films, some really cool mini poster cards and the usual 4 page insert talking about the films, subtitles in English, Italian, Spanish and possibly German and French. The audio for both will be English with an additional audio track in Spanish if they are good enough master mag tracks. Really exciting films and we know you will love having them scanned into 4k from the 35mm prints for our HD encoding. We hope to launch the presale very soon and intend on some extras for the limited edition series that will not be available for the street release. Stay tuned....

The very positive reviews of the Franco set encouraged me to take a risk (or what I consider to be one) on this label. Super excited for this Larraz double feature. Snagged the Eurocrime vol.1 back in March. I'll get NotS at some point. It looks like my risk will pay off.

Think I'm going to pass on the Larraz double feature. Doesn't sound like my cup of tea.

I can't pre order as their Franco's were not up to snuff, and that's the only Blu of theirs we've seen. Where were the positive reviews? I missed 'em.

What is the source? What is the aspect ratio? Why do they insist on saying Full HD?
It makes pre ordering an absolute no go for me.

Where are the negative screenshots and/or reviews of the Franco set? Genuinely curious.

I'm of the belief that something is better than nothing these days. Sure, these are sourced from prints (many of them supposedly in excellent shape) but odds are good that'll be as good as it gets for most of these. There's so much out there that likely won't get released on BD and that's a darn shame. I'll take what I can get.

I haven't seen any really negative comments on the Franco set and only good to very good opinions on it. I guess much like myself, people will take anything they can get even if it's not Arrow or Camera Obscura quality.

Bottom line is these Blu's look exactly like the Spanish DVD's from a few years ago. Depends on your tolerance for lousy sources on Blu is guess, mine is extremely low.

Not sure about aspect ratios, but the sources are 35mm prints, scanned in 4k. As for saying 'Full HD', I'm assuming that's the equivalent of listing '1080P HD Resolution' among the tech specs on the back of BD cases - confirmation that the release isn't an upconvert or 1080i, but native, 'genuine' HD.

"Ordered" this about an hour ago and paid with PayPal. Everything seemed to go fine, but did not receive a confirmation email and there is no record of the transaction at PayPal. Anyone experience this? I know Dorado's site has been buggy in the past.

They look about like I'd expect a film print projected at a theatrical screening to look. Obviously there's generational loss because it's not an IP or negative being scanned, but it is what it is. Theatrical prints don't have razor sharp detail and can't be color corrected.

Yeah the screenshots do not look like the greatest Blu-ray transfer I have ever seen, but I'm not convinced that it was through any fault of Dorado.

DVDDRIVE-IN even says in their review that it was most likely the source and they seem doubtful that the extra space for less compression on a BD-50 would even benefit it, even though they say they would have preferred one. - http://www.dvddrive-in.com/reviews/n...etombblu73.htm

All the other reviews I have seen are overwhelmingly positive.

https://franconomicon.wordpress.com/...n-films-vol-1/

https://mcbastardsmausoleum.blogspot...forgotten.html

They perhaps didn't hit it out of the park, and you could argue that a more established company would have delivered a more polished product, but I don't see any reason to not support them yet. I am glad that these are making it to Blu-ray, because it's possible that they never would have without Dorado.

Hopefully they see some of the reviews and maybe upgrade to bd-50 discs and spend a bit more time QC'ing the discs. Very excited for the José Ramón Larraz Double Feature.

Same here... After you leave the pay-pal screens, you still have to finalize your order on the Dorado website. Did you do that?

I ordered and received a confirmation email. I did not pay with PayPal, however.

From 4/6:

Originally we had planned on a DVD of Special Cop in Action to go with the BR for our BR /DVD Combo pack, then after listening to some of you presale buyers, we offered to replace the DVD version with a completely different title, The Councilor. Upon doing this we had to switch gears and now clean, capture and work on the audio plus author a new film to DVD for the Eurocrime release. This has added approximately 3 weeks to our projected shipping date for the presale release. Our new projected shipping date is between May 30th, 2017 to no later than June 5th, 2017.

The Night of the Scorpion is slated for shipping next week April 11th through the 13th 2017. If you ordered both the releases and are doing the combined shipping we can consider working out sending you the Night of the Scorpion and the Eurocime releases separately, just email me at rick@doradofilms.com and we can work it all out.

Thanks again to all for your continued support!
Rick
