I think 29% is a generous rating for this movie. It could and should have been better.

Anyone check this out on iTunes yet? I had a previously redeemed code upgrade to 4K and I watched the first 20 minutes or so. If it’s truly playing back in 4K (my TV shows Dolby Vision when I queue it up), it is by far the worst transfer I’ve seen. It barely passes as SD quality.

I’m mainly wondering if Apple is incorrectly displaying the quality I own. This was released in 2009 during the XML/disc digital copy redemption days, which obviously were not redeeming HD at the time.

Digital movies always have been subpar, and you lose A/V quality due to compression when you're downloading, which is why I've always prefer physical media. You can't beat physical media in terms of overall quality.

I agree with you 100% about physical media, but I did a little more looking. The title indeed appears to be SD when I view it in my iTunes library on my computer. Just a little frustrating since they make it pretty clear on my Apple TV that it was upgraded to 4K.

It will look like crap no matter the Res, that's a good thing tho as that's how it was shot.
But don't go in expecting stunning visuals

While not as good as Crank 1 & 2 (it's directed by the same duo who did this film), I still enjoyed this as a passable time waster.

I thought the Japanese BD looked gorgeous.
