That's a little generous, if you ask me. It's an excellent technical production and includes some fine performances, but the script has the very common horror movie problem that the protagonists make such patently dumb decisions it becomes impossible to sympathize with their (somewhat self-imposed) plight.

And why should we care what the IMDB rating is?

It's not considered Fincher's best but the technicality level in it is brilliant. It has also been my most rewatched Fincher movie to date. I really love it.

6.8 just seems to be on the pretty low side. but then again Sharknado has a 3.3, so its at least twice as good as that gem and Jodi Foster was pretty easy on the eyes back in the day too.

It's a cracking thriller from one of the great directors of our time, not his bestest work but popcorn entertainment par excellence. More than that, it never got a Blu-ray release anywhere EVER so some people have been waiting a long, long time to be able to own this on a physical format in better quality than a DVD! As I sit typing this I can see the 3-disc DVD special edition peering out at me from a rack.

This getting a 4K release does beg the question of whether they'll press a Blu-ray to go with it and if they do, will it include all those amazing DVD extras?

this explains some excitement then. So then my next question, is this the 1st 4k Blu ray that has gone from DVD to 4k without having a 1080P BD?

I dont. Sure I want this to be a worldwide release but I'm just basing my thoughts on what Best Buy usually does with Sony catalog titles.

I hope they put a warning sticker on the cover that tells people that Jard Leto appears and attempts to act.

This is Fincher's first 4k release, correct?

Great news even if it's not his finest work. I remember being incredibly let down when I first saw it in the theater after waiting what felt like forever for him to follow Fight Club. Still, this should look fantastic and I remember liking it a bit more on repeat viewings after I'd lowered my expectations.

Happy for those who are a fan of his work, but for me I'm hoping this release is part of a "bigger picture push" with Fincher. Give me Zodiac, The Social Network, and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo on 4K, please!

Yes. And ironically also the ONLY Fincher film to not have a BD release.

I dunno because his movies are all at various studios. Fox have Alien³, Fight Club and Gone Girl and they treat catalogue UHD releases like the plague, ditto for Paramount who have the US rights to Benjamin Button and Zodiac while Warners handles the rest of the world for those two, mostly. The more catalogue friendly studios don't have too much of his work, e.g. Warners have Se7en since they folded New Line into the company proper and Universal's got Game, The (which had a stunning new 4K restoration a few years back).

If this sells well then I could see Sony going for a UHD of Social Network, but they may well sit on Dragon Tattoo until the new movie is released so they can time it for a cash-in.

Yes AFAIK. There aren't many movies of this stature (not that it's a classic but it's been a gaping hole in Fincher's hi-def discography for over a decade) that missed out on a Blu-ray release, with True Lies and The Abyss being the two most major examples.

No worries, I wanted to get it straight in my own head more than anything. Hopefully Warners will push to get Se7en and their foreign-rights-owned Fincher movies out there on UHD, and you never know what might pop up with Universal and Le Game seeing as there's a spanking new 4K transfer that's cocked, locked and ready to rock.
