"are officially in discussions with"
"Now, nothing is 100% so you guys all need to be patient." Not sure why anyone is really that excited. I want TMP in 4K along with the other Original Series cast flicks, but when the Bits is telling you "to be patient"...well they've been telling us TRUE LIES and THE ABYSS are "coming soon" for how many YEARS now? I don't think we'll see any 4K "classic" Trek until the next TREK movie comes out -- Tarantino's or otherwise -- so it's going to be awhile. Quote:

Practical effects in 4k will be amazing. I only have the first six on VHS and I'd love a reason to revisit the lot of them. So many memories from childhood seeing them for the first time.
Since it's Paramount, I suspect we will get individual discs of everything and then a boxed set later on like with Mission: Impossible and Bourne. |

TMP in a good 4K form is and always has been my #1 want, but NOT the so-called director's cut. Sound mix is atrocious and VFX are a real mixed batch, including some deliberately 'animated on 2s' stuff that looks totally out of place against the meticulous beautiful animation in the rest of the feature. The theatrical has its own really awful bits, but not as terrible for me as the latter version.

Star Trek II DC is just as good as the DC of The Motion Picture, but each has its specific target genre within sci-fi. Alien and Aliens, similarly. Star Trek IV is just pure, joyous fun yet still well made as an adventure romp... then they pretty much slump from there on out IMHO. |

Some of the most solid TOS episodes were written by the best of the best sci-fi writers of the day too. |

That's if they don't re-do some of the effects shots with CG models like the original SD mastered DC, albeit in 2k or 4k. If you recall, some of the effects weren't even completed when the theatrical cut was released to theaters in the late 70's. |

Maybe do an original movie series set in 4K UHD, and if that sells, then do the TNG films as well as a separate set. |

I wish they would treat this like the Close Encounters set - All 3 versions remastered on a new Blu-ray edition:
Theatrical version - what I saw at the theater in 79 Special Edition - the version I had on VHS for years and probably know best Director's version - version I still have on DVD and have watched probably 2 times. |

The theatrical version and the SLV will work with branching, but the DC will need to be on a separate disc -- just too many changes including entire sound design in virtually every scene.
Two disc set sound fine to me, but I will buy the DC alone as it is my favorite of the three. |

As mentioned, they couldn't branch it and studios are loathe to put multiple 4k discs in a pack for the same movie. It will probably be a two disc set with the DC and theatrical, or separate disc releases. |

It was said they are are working on a new master, with the goal to getting it on BD. However this is a wishlist thread. True lies and the abyss have new masters, where are those discs? With Arsenals hope of the title? |
