OK, my goal is to stay under $1,000. I accomplished that in 2015, with just over $800 spent. I don't feel guilty spending that sort of money for two reasons: first, I hardly ever go to the theater; when I see The Hateful Eight tomorrow night, that will be only the 4th film I've seen in a theater this year. Second, film is what I love, so it makes sense to put my available funds toward what I love.

I have a feeling that Criterion is going to put a serious dent in things in 2016, though. There are already 6 or 7 titles I'll be picking up in the first 3 months. Ouch.

Your total is really close to mine as well, of course, I consider this total pretty shameful haha. Who needs retirement savings anyway, I'll probably be dead by 60 .

I don't normally buy steelbooks, this year I've only gotten 4 so far, I can't imagine how much higher the cost total might be if I cared enough to get the steelbooks over a cheaper version.

I'm with you on rationalizing my cost since I don't go to the theater often to see a movie. Even when I do go it is typically because of some movie ticket promo that came with a blu I wanted. Of course there are exceptions (like taking the wife to see the last Hunger Games film on or seeing Star Wars opening weekend).

All my blu and theater tickets are tax write-offs, but since a big majority of the less obscure catalog titles are already out and most new movies aren't worth buying, I will probably spend less in 2016 compared to this year and last.
