I'm still hopeful season 2 will be better since there are a handful of 16:9 caps from the "Previously On" segments from the 16:9 DVD seasons. And none of them have footage cut off the top and bottom of the frame.

A few impressions from tonight broadcast (did not watch everything, though):
Some spoilers ahead! 1x11: - When Buffy, Willow and Xander are in the lockers at the beginning of the episode, I noticed sort of a white paper on the right margin of the lens (would not appear in the 4:3 frame). - There is also a REALLY WEIRD cut to Buffy before Harmony falls down the stairs. It's also somewhat jarring in the original editing, but I think this might be the worse widescreen goof I've seen (including seasons 4-7). - Scenes with the flying bat/needle/etc looked cropped and/or upscaled. 1x12: - "Previously On" has cropped shots from previous episodes except the ones we already saw "opened up". There is a scene with the Master where he says something like "I've been trapped here for so long, I nearly forgot what it's like on the surface". I didn't see nor have that episode so I can't compare. - Interestingly, underground scenes with the Master and the Anointed One are cropped in the actual episode. - The tunnels/underground still seem too bright. - I don't think I noticed any hands handling the disgusting thing in the Library ![]() - The Master's dusting was cropped/upscaled. 2x01 just started: - "Previously On" restored! Was missing from DVDs, both the US and UK release. No new opened up shots as far as I could tell. - New opening credits, nothing interesting to add... Also plenty of cropped shots from season 1 |

I make screenshots. It works again since the middle of the first episode.
There was a HUGE mistake during the confrontation between Buffy and the Master. The Master speak. We should not see him. However, he's on the left side of the image... It was ridiculous... |

![]() First few comparisons from "Prophecy Girl". I had to use my computers capturing option to get the caps, so they're really crappy quality.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Looks like most of the other captures from the last episodes of season 1, more image added on all sides. |

Buffy S1 looks really good on widescreen. I have a feeling seasons 1-3 will look really swell in widescreen and ironically were the only seasons never released on widescreen!

![]() I can't believe I just noticed this, the season two premiere has the same bus scene that they show right before it goes underground to reveal the Masters layer in "Welcome to the Hellmouth" lol OK, here are the "When She Was Bad" comparisons from the captures I was able to get:

The episodes from season 1 that aren't 80% cropped look good in Widescreen... lol

I am trying to download the screenshots !
![]() So... My opinion... The last two episodes of the first season was better for contrast and color than before. But the error with the Master is really shameful... For the aspect ratio... I am very mixed. Most of the time it adds nothing. It is a wall, hair... I am not convinced that it is really useful. 4:3 is much more fulfilled. We will say that it's better than the cropping ! |

I know what I'm about to say(and have said many times already, I'm going to try not to say it again after this. lol) seems to bother a lot of people, but it's my view on the subject and it's not going to change, but I love the widescreen versions. For me personally, extra image on the sides with nothing going is better than black filling the sides which is more distracting to me. Most purists say "Use the zoom or stretch option on you tv to fill the screen" Why do that if I don't have to? If something is able to be made 1.78:1 without cropping the top & bottom, I think it should be made available no matter what. More so if most of the series has already been released that way and has been seen by millions. A lot of the errors in the 16:9 frame can be fixed and if they would spend the money & time to do so, I would love for it to be released on Blu-ray. I'll still buy the series if it's released on Blu-ray in it's OAR, I just won't be rushing out to buy it on release day and will wait for a significant price drop.
