Default Worst call in Baseball History

watching this game live on espn and i couldnt believe what just happened, how can he miss the call... Look at it yourself... its not even close.. And im a Giants fan fyi

Armando Galarraga Just got robbed..

Edit: heres the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VmCNNxRg_Og

EDIT2: MLB still deciding whether to review ump’s call

Quote:
NEW YORK (AP)—Major League Baseball was still deciding Thursday morning whether to review the umpire’s blown call that cost Armando Galarraga(notes) a perfect game.

Commissioner Bud Selig has the power to reverse umpire Jim Joyce’s missed call that came with two outs in the ninth inning Wednesday night in Detroit. Joyce ruled Cleveland’s Jason Donald(notes) safe, then admitted he got it wrong and tearfully apologized in person to the pitcher.

It very well might be. The 1999 ALCS faux "tag" on Jose Offerman by Knoblauch was bad. The Don Deckinger call was bad. This one ranks right up there with those.

This call will be on almost everyone's list of 5 worst calls for many decades I imagine.

Wow, that really is bad.

Is there anyway that MLB with give him the perfect game due to it being the FINAL out?

It really makes me wonder...what good are baseball records are anyway?

Ok, so it looks like that we have had THREE PERFECT GAMES in the last month!
That is like what...15% of the total perfect games in under 30 days?????

I can't wait to hear Jim Joyce explain this call. The only explanation I can think of is that he thought the fielder missed tagging 1st base. There is no possible way he could have actually thought the runner beat the fielder to 1st. It wasn't even a close play.

There are plenty of great players around today. Expansion has watered down the league today but guys like Halladay and Pujols would be top-tier players in any era. I will miss Griffey though.

I'm very happy to see baseball progressing past the "juiced ball" ERA. I really miss the low scoring pitching duels from the late 80's/early 90's of my youth. It seems like pitching is making a comeback in a big way. I never thought I'd see three perfect games in one season, much less in 1/3rd of a season.

They need to. Bud Selig is a joke but if he mans up and makes the right call on this one, he'll have gained a little of my respect back. Plus, in a game with these types of implications, this would've earned tons of gratitude from the multitude who was hankering for some replay. I mean, seriously, WTF is replay for, if not something like this. It's not as if the game was going long. Even if the Tigers had gone on some scoring spree, they'd gotten 26 straight outs.

EDIT: YES to poll!!!

You're talking about a guy that has so little backbone he allowed an All-Star game to end in a friggin tie. Not exactly the guy I expect to make a gutsy call like giving the guy a perfect game.

umpire Jim Joyce-

Quote:
The veteran ump regretted it.

“I just cost that kid a perfect game,” Joyce said. “I thought he beat the throw. I was convinced he beat the throw, until I saw the replay.”

“It was the biggest call of my career,”
said Joyce, who became a full-time major league umpire in 1989.

I was at that game in Milwaukee. Most confusing 5 minutes of my life when I heard the words "tie" and "baseball" in the same sentence.

Around the Horn I like because it has a moderator with a mute button. Kornheiser is just terrible, old-fashioned obnoxious. Out of a possible 22 minutes, I want someone to count the amount of time, the only one of those guys is talking.

I think the Dekinger one was certainly worse, because it cost the Cardinals a World Series.

At least for Galaraga, people will probably remember him as the guy who pitched a perfect game, but was robbed of it.

Nobody thinks of the Cardinals as the '85 World Series Champions.

I think the poll just reflects a more heat of the moment feeling.

Holy crap. What a terrible horrible call. There was no way he even looked safe. Damn. The announcer got it right that this is an absolute travesty for this to happen like that. Horrible.
